Your mom liked them.

How would I know if your mom liked them? Silly kids always visiting for silly things (you must realize that’s why I love you).

Let’s put this mom thing to the test. Yes I don’t have anything useful to write about so this is what you get (cuz it’s what’s on my brain).

My mom loved my manuscript (even though she hasn’t read it) why doesn’t an agent?

She tells me that I have the best characters. It’s better than JK Rowling’s works (not realizing I write women’s fiction – that and she hasn’t read it).

Says publishing houses are missing the big picture because I’m not published yet.

Aren’t mom’s great? They always know what to say (sort of).

Right now I’m in the querying game for my celebrity journal entries for Jules (also known as In the Mind of a Celebrity Stalker). It’s been tough. I’m learning a lot (not really) while querying (except that I can rack up a lot of rejections).

After spending too many agonizing hours on gmail, facebook, twitter, blogger, and query tracker I took a break. I stopped and analyzed my sanity (yes it’s important).

In doing so I wrote a new book (30 Guys in 30 Days) so far my peeps are giving me great feedback (they freaking love it) so it’s on to revisions. With my cupcake basket full and my happy face on (most of the time) I’m skipping into a field of flowers (aka revision land) and ready to make this bad boy sparkle (or girl – since boys don’t sparkle – unless you’re a vampire).

What has your mother lied about recently? What form of torture do you prefer online?

Author note: This is a dramatization. My mom was not harmed in the making of this post – nor did I ask for her insight. She doesn’t read my work – I let my husband do that (chick lit all the way baby, now that's love).

Funny post. My Mom pulls no punches she tells it like it is so...can I borrow your Mom?

Cupcakes as revision fuel ftw! Unfortunately, much as she loves me, my Mum is more of the 'tell it how it is' variety. The good thing though, is that when she gives you a compliment you know that she means it.

I want to trade moms, too. Lol My sister-in-law tells me she loves my book, so it must be good. Lol

My Mum 'knows' I can write. She 'knows' that one day I will be published. I think she is basing this knowledge on letters I sent her as a child, and emails I send her now, because that's all she's ever read :)

deleted my first comment, because it was a response to another blog. Yeah, i'm smooth like that.
My mom likes to say things like "when sarah publishes her book, she can buy me a house".
I mean, really mom?

Jen, I love this post and I'm so glad to be back visiting here after so long! :) My mom and grandma read my books and they say they like them, even though they might be holding back criticism (at least my grandma). My husband tells it like it is.

That's so great that your hubby reads your chick lit! He's a keeper! :D

LOL. My mom does what Sarah (Falen)'s does... She thinks I'm going to buy her a house when I get published, ha!

*begs for a cupcake*

:) My mom thinks everything I write is great (except for my horror stuff). And nope, she hasn't read any.

Querying is never easy. Neither is revising. Good luck with everything!

My mom loved everything I ever wrote. But she also loved all of those weird clay animal thingys I made for her in grade school too. :-)

There is nothing like the love of a mother to put a smile on our face and a light in our heart! But seriously she's right!!

By the way... looks like Juliette may be arriving in the first week of July... aaah am I ready?!?! hahaha

Oh my mom lies to me all the time about things. I blame it on living in the midwest for so long. Your new book sounds cool. Glad people are liking it. Good luck with revisions.

Okay. This post made me smile. Thanks!! My mom hasn't read anything of mine, even my upcoming release, but she often says she'll like it, she's sure.

I kinda smile, thinking how that's sweet, but I'm sure it's not her cup of tea. . . LOL. But, she'll read it anyway, I'm sure.

Great post. Love your humor and energy!

Let the bad boy sparkle! Vampires don't have the market cornered on glam.

Preferred form of torture-- none. I like skipping through fields of flowers and keeping my happy face on.

Nice voice.

You just proved again why its so important to write while you're querying.

Grrr on the queries. We started, then stopped, then rewrote the book, then shorted it, then rewrote new parts and now we're trying again. Also, we've started a new writer's group, so onward and upward I say.

Which is worse a rejection that is sent to you directly (I'm sorry, this isn't anything I'm looking for right now) or none at all (If I don't answer in 6 months, consider it rejected).

I stopped taking much notice of my mum's opinions when I realised the paintings I did as three-year-old weren't quite as exceptional as she said...

My mother doesn't read my writing. I'm not ever sure she read my book. She hates science fiction. Oh well!

Har! My mum was very honest and told me she didn't like the profanity in my novel. Poor mum!

My mom has this way of trying to avoid what she really wants to say.
Mom: Is that what you're wearing?Translation: I can't believe you're leaving the house like that.

I recently took an overnight trip w/ her and she tried so hard to be quiet when she got up in the night to use the bathroom at the hotel, she didn't want to turn the light on to wake me. Then she tripped on her suitcase on the way back and made a huge deal of saying "OW! This really hurts! Ohhhh" So I bolt up, "are you ok?" "Oh yes, I was trying to be quiet, ohh owwwww!"

Mothers: gotta love 'em

My Mom has read sections of my ms under duress and then graded them as if she was a creative writing instructor. Then she talks about it with people who have read my book and acts like she's an expert.
Oh, and she gives backhanded advice. She really, really wants me to go purple prose-tastic in the style of 70's epic romance.
There is a small chance she might read this, but I'm leaving this comment anyway. Who knows? It might open a dialogue that will get us nowhere.
Huh, I must be frustrated right now. :)

Your mom sounds amazing! Not that I'm surprised, since she raised you!

My mom is a wonderful liar. She tells me exactly what I need to hear (whether it's true or not) and is fiercely defensive of me - exactly what a Mama Bear should be. :)

My mom has only read the printed-out short stories I physically put in her hands (after six months of sending the links to my online portfolio). The closest thing to a compliment I got was, "I can't believe you wrote these!" *sigh* It's awesome to hear about your mother supporting and encouraging you in your craft. Can't think of anything nicer, at this moment!

I'm so impressed your hubby reads your stuff!! I haven't shared with anyone in my real world yet - just my cyber crit buddies! :)

On the flip side, I actually got a little irritated with my mom when she read my first MS and made too many suggestions on it. I mean, seriously? That's what betas are for...mom's are supposed to blow smoke up our *beep* and set our confidences soaring! Apparently, my mom is broken and I need to get a new one.

Cute post. Haven't shown my mom any of my work in quite some time.

Not speaking about your book or writing in anyway - just sharing my experience. Sometimes those lies would be really nice to hear. A few weeks ago my dad said, "You wrote you shared a sense of humor with the company you were reviewing. Well don't take this the wrong way, but you have a long way to go to be as funny as they are." Now, I assure you a lie would have been better.
