Truth Thursdays

Shout-out: Ellie is celebrating 200 followers! She has a super fun and easy way to enter!! Go (after you read this post).

Another edition of Truth Thursdays, one of my favorite days of the week! I can find out so many interesting things about others, but only if I dish a few of my own. So here we go!

1. I bought US Weekly this week purely based on the fact that Sandra Bullock was on the front (lie. I also saw the Housewives of Beverly Hills and couldn't tell myself no).
2. After I finish a manuscript I always write a small dedication and acknowledgements that I'd like to see on the book. I fear that one day I'll forget everyone I want to thank (that, and it's part of the dreaming process).
3. The last book I wrote (In the Mind of a Celebrity Stalker) has me talking like my character. I've become a journal junkie and I like to keep up with celebrities (typical Jules).
4. I went and saw a movie by myself this weekend. I hadn't done that in at least three years. I'm going more often from now on. I saw Tangled (I'm a wimp, can't see anything too scary in the theaters). It was cute. I enjoyed it.
5. This week I deemed Sunday, Harry Potter day. I had a little marathon. It was fun. You should try it.

So what are your truths? You like doing dinner and a movie alone?

I love going to movies by myself. I do it whenever I can.. no one to argue with on what to see.
ANd I used to do movie marathons at hone pre-kids. Now those are a thing of the past.
And yes I can't seem to get out of character right away either. I had a flamer in one of my stories and I swear I talked like him for a month after I wrote the story ... calling everyone, child and girl and darlin ... lol. Peeps must've thought I was losing it.
Good to know I'm not the only one. :)

Well I never DO dinner and a movie without getting to know them first.

I never thought to write the dedication part! I mean, I've dreamed of writing it, but never actually put anything on a page--brilly! :-)

I never thought to write the dedication either. You are just so smart! XO

My truths? Hmmm...I'm lying in bed writing this and I have SEVERE case of bed-head. It's sticking straight up on one side and is mashed on the other.

Ah, my truths. Hmmm, I love US weekly (have a subscription, how pathetic is that!!), can't eat ice cream without Magic Shell and think every day should be Harry Potter Day! I'm counting down the days until I get to head back to the Wizarding World at Universal with my kids this summer. I'm such a dork:)

truth? I called in late to work even though my alarm actually went off when it was supposed to and now I'm sitting here commenting when I should be rushing to get out the door.

Ok... five truths about me...

1) Two of my happy places are: Alone in the cinema in the dark before the movie starts. Behind the fencing mask before the first attack...

2) I almost never get colds in the winter. I have one today. Temperature outside: 36 degrees celsius.

3) I also think about who I should dedicate my books to. I have also forgotten half of them.

4) The severe phobias in my life are: Heights, deep water, needles and escalators. I manage all of them. In fact, I like doing things that I fear. There is nothing like seeing fear in front of you and doing the scary thing any way.

5) I want to speak nine or ten languages before I die. So far, I speak four.

:-)

I'll do the movie thing solo. Dinner, not so much. People tend to stare at me when I'm by myself and it creeps me out because I don't know why. I mean, I only talk to my characters INSIDE my head, not out loud.

I get stuck in character sometimes too. Unfortunately, lately, it's been one of my male characters with is kind of disturbing.

I'm not big on doing movies alone. Dinner sure. Tangled was a great movie! I'm going to get it for my girls.

I did lunch alone a couple days ago. I did some outlining for my WiP with the help of some french fries and a frosty from Wendy's. It was wonderful.

I don't think I've ever done dinner and a movie alone, except way back once when I was a girl I went to see Gone With the Wind. I was wearing a suede leather jacket and thought I looked very chic but Scarlett O'Hara made me feel really small and insignificant because in that movie she and all her clothes are amazing.

The last movie I saw alone in a theatre was Brokeback Mountain, so it's been awhile (and the popcorn was my dinner). I heard Dickens got stuck in his head as his character too, so I think you're okay!

I don't think I have ever been to a movie alone. Hmmm... :-)

I'm not such a fan of dining alone, but I like going to the movies alone. I figure you don't talk to others while the movie's on. There isn't really a difference when you go solo!

I really enjoy seeing movies by myself. I like to walk in all mysteriously confident to be alone and walk out like I have somewhere important to be. But really, lone movies is more fun than people think.
Harry Potter day! WHOOOT! Every day should be HP day...

I have never gone to a movie by myself. I'm afraid I'd start talking to the people around me and they'd throw me out. ;)

Tangled was awesome!!! I almost had to go see Black Swan by myself, but thankfully I didn't. Then there was that laughing lady... anyway, I want to do a HP day. Must see if they're there for download again~ xoxo

I took myslef on a date last week. Dinner alone because my husband was working late. I read a book and it was really quite relaxing!

We often do the Harry Potter marathon around Christmas. Either that or Lord of the Rings. I look forward to it every year!

Just saw a small portion of the Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion show. I'd seen a couple of episodes and it was...enough. So weird to see how the other half lives!

Love that you write your acknowledgements after you finish a ms. I think it makes sense. You don't want to forget!

Donea Lee said...

I sooo need to have an HP marathon! It's been too long (books and movies!).

I've done the dinner and movie thing alone. I much prefer the movie...people can still obviously see me, but hiding still seems plausible. Dinner alone is just awkward. I know I'll see a guy in a restaurant alone and think, "Oh, sad. Nobody loves him..." :)

Hi Jen,
I just love being alone, no matter where I can be. I've just joined the A -Z Blogging Challenge,so I'm trying to get to know the rest of the crowd. Nice to meet you. Come check out my blog at http://www.katzenhousebooks.com/blog

My two year old son loved the commercials for Tangled, he would always get up a dance. A little too young for me to take him to the movies, I'll buy it for him when it comes out on DVD. Wonder if he'll like it... or if it was just the awesome music that he liked.

I've never seen a movie alone, but I love having dinner by myself.

When I was in college I used to frequently go to movies alone because no one else was interested in the movies I wanted to see (they thought they were too weird). Now I don't ever go to the movies, but I sometimes watch movies at home by myself-- especially documentaries and foreign films--my wife is not much of a fan of these.

I don't like doing a movie alone, but I've seen one or two that way in the past year. Glad you saw Tangled - good movie! Should've been nominated for Best Annimation. There was no reason not to have five movies in that category. (Despicable Me being the other film that was shafted.)

Ghenet Myrthil said...

I've never gone to the movies alone. I'm not morally opposed to it. I just do other things if I'm by myself with free time on my hands. Maybe one day...

Writing dedications after you finish writing a book is a good idea! I might try that when I'm done with my WIP.

Golden Eagle said...

I've never been the movies at all, actually--so I've never gone alone, although it does sound like it could be fun now and then.

I love going to the movies alone; I've gotten some great ideas that way! I really, really miss being able to watch the award ceremonies (and throw a theme-based party). Fingers crossed that I'll be back in the right time zones to do so next year.
Writing dedications is great. I was doing that in my head the other day.
Oh, and I'm holding a blogfest at the beginning of March--there will be prizes!!

I haven't gone to a movie by myself in a long. long time. I'd like to though. But it would have to be a covert operation because my kids and husband would really object to being left at home. Hmm. I can see myself now with my own popcorn and drink enjoying the film without anyone telling me they need to go to the bathroom . . . *sighing and looking up show times*

Most people think I'm nuts because I enjoy going to the movies by myself every once in a while. Actually, the only thing I don't like about it is all the theater employees acting like I'm some pathetic lonely person because I'm going to see a flick by myself. You would think no one ever does it!

I want to have a Harry Potter marathon day! Maybe while I'm "snowed in." And buying tabloids is always a good use of money, in my opinion. :)

The ONLY thing that gets me to the gym is the promise of reading celebrity gossip on the elliptical machine. Reading them for research is brilliant!

It's kindof nice going to a movie alone from time to time . . . mostly. But that brings me to my truth:

Last time I went alone, I had just gotten my retainer in (for the first time), and drove straight to the theater for a class in college.

I was actually very relieved to be in a theater where I wouldn't have to try to talk to anyone. So then while I'm waiting, this cute guy comes up and asks to sit next to me, and I was humiliated by my attempt at speech. Stupid retainer.

I've never gone to the movies solo - which is kind of surprising as I like totally different movies than my family!

You are one confidant gal! I can't go to movies or eat by myself. I have eaten lunch by myself at like, a Schlotskeys before. I just make sure I'm armed wtih a magazine or something work-related so I look all importantish.

Fun truths going on here. I like the idea of movie marathon days, especially here in New England. It seems like we're snowed in every other day, so the marathon would be amazing!

I routinely go to movies by myself. My wife won't go see scary movies with me, and if I'm really psyched about the movie I'll go solo. :)

I love going to movies by myself! I sit where I want. I watch what I want. The only bummer is when I have to go to the bathroom. No one to watch my stuffs. I frequently have movie marathons. I just finished watching Terminator and T2. I stopped there, the rest suck aces.
