Waiting makes you crazy

Waiting makes you do crazy things.

(Author note: for those of you unaware of my waiting game this is the dealio - I sent my manuscript to a publisher. 4 weeks waiting time. Mass panic. Mixed emotions. Whole lot a want. Whole lot a waiting.)

Like I said, waiting makes you crazy.

  1. I have been reinventing myself - Sim's style. In Sim's world I'm already published (seriously, I'm like JK Rowling already)
  2. I watch movies (bad ones) - I saw The Roommate which only reminded me of my main character. Only positive, my main character isn't killer crazy, she's fun crazy (1 point Team Jen)
  3. I have avoided baths - They lead to WAY too much thinking (both positive and negative - negative, definitely wins)
  4. I've been cooking (I know) - I made tilapia in a bag and it didn't suck (actually it was flipping fantastic).
  5. I also have time for laundry, cleaning, and other household chores (seriously it's insane, I should stop).
  6. I am teaching myself something new. Sign language. I knew the basics but I wanna know more.
  7. I dance, sing, and eat - Jersey Shore style. T-Shirt time officially happens in our home.

So that's what I've been up too. What about you?

I used to think I was a patient person...but it really depends. I can be pretty patient dealing with complete morons, (just kill 'em with kindness), but when it comes to WAITING for something I'm off the charts mental.

I don't like waiting either, Jen. So I feel for you. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best!

I'd like to visit you in Sim's World. :)

I really don't like waiting but I do a pretty good job at distracting myself...at least, until it's bedtime. That's my stress time.

The best thing to do when you're waiting is to start writing your next book. If all else fails, I like your cooking and dancing ideas! Good luck, Jen!

hmmm. waiting. well, I started that new crazy blog. Some Guys Are Toads

And I've been brainstorming new novel concepts- one I'm really excited about! It's so much fun.

hmmm. Tilapia. Sounds good!

The waiting won't go on for ever Jen! Only a few more weeks (I know that's like saying the dentist is only going to break your jaw to fix your smile but....)

I watched The Roomate this weekend too - it was freaking creepy. (That poor kitty!)

Sim's worlds are the best! I miss sims.........

LOL I'm just like you! I watch my favorite shows that I tape and never have time to watch. Fringe. . . now that will take your mind off the waiting. Happy thoughts Jen - your time is coming sooner than you think I bet!!!

I don't think any of us are good at waiting. You're doing the right thing by keeping busy. It's the only way to make the time pass more quickly. :) Good luck! And I agree with Liz, now's the time to start the next book.

And cooking and cleaning for a writer is definitely crazy! :) LOL

Sign language is wonderful. I haven't used it in a while, but when our youngest was little he had speech issues and we did. It's beautiful.

You stinker. You're a clue holder. Hah...

I ripped out a wall once. I wanted to write. Really wanted to write. But every single time I sat down at my computer, my heart ached. I just couldn't do it. Ripping out a wall made me feel so much better. It occupied my mind, my hands, and when I was done, I had achieved something.

I took sign language while in university (it wasn't a university course, though). I've forgotten most of it.

It was just one of several languages I couldn't master. :(

Waiting is definitely not much fun . . . especially when you're a kid waiting for your birthday or Christmas.

(A bit of wisdom here from the old crone...) Waiting is a waste of time. When you send something out, forget about it, let it go and get on with something else. Cooking is good, sign language EXCELLENT! Just remember to have fun.

Also revising makes you crazy, which is why I've been eating takeout, wearing PJs all day during the weekend, and having epiphanies where I imagine a cartoon lightbulb is flicking on over my head.

Also, tilapia is so good. I only recently started making it at home but I'll saute it and it's so fast.

I'm in a waiting game myself right now. It sucks. But I'm trying to pour my energy into my new wip...so far it hasn't worked out that way, lol, but hopefully I'll get some good work done today :)

Homework. blah!

Hope the time passes quickly or better yet, that you get some great news!

Best of luck to you!

Thankfully you seem to know where to draw the line to insanity. If it goes all Jack Nickolaus on you... call for help and someone will rescue you.

hugs on your wait.... :O)

I guess the "No news is good news" maxim doesn't help at this point. But at least you're doing interesting things with your time. :)

Who are you and what have you done with Jen hahahah jk

I agree with Liz, perfect time to start your next book!
I've been in bed for 6 days with the flu so I've haven't been up to much of anything.

OOHH sign language--impressive! Esp. since I still don't know how you do it all!

I love that your Sims person is published! I gotta try that : )

I avoid baths as well. Leads to too much wrinkling...and at my age that can be REALLY bad! :)

Arlee Bird said...

I like your Sims alternate reality scenario the best. Focus on the positive, the positive, the positive.
What have I been up to? Well let me name it off from A to Z.

The waiting is the WORST! It's so hard. I'm impressed with your non-sucky tilapia.

I am not a very patient person, so waiting for me sucks! But it sounds like you've been keeping yourself busy! :)

Waiting really does drive you crazy. Or, in my case, crazier.

Kass said...

The more you wait, the crazier you become. The more fun you are, the moar betterer writer you is.

Talli Roland said...

Oh, I hear you! Waiting does indeed make you crazy! Good luck...xx

Shannon O'Donnell said...

It sounds like you are far more productive than I am. I just throw myself into my kiddos. :-)

Leigh Hutchens Burch said...

Have you seen the movie Waiting?

It doesn't suck, especially if you've ever been a waitress.

Other kinds of waiting, though =s suckspice.

Yeah. I said it.

Shannon said...

I'm not a patient person, but much like you, I fill my time to stay busy. Hang in there - you'll hear something soon!

I drove all over the place this morning. From Target, to my kids elementary school, to the post office, to my house. I don't know, the activity would probably be less dangerous in a Sims world.

Misha Gerrick said...

I've just been trying to convince myself that I want to write.

I hope that your wait ends soon and that the news is good.

:-)

*crossing my fingers for you* Waiting makes me crazy too, and I don't even have the laundry done to show for it. :p

Golden Eagle said...

I hope you don't have to wait much longer! I don't like having to wait, either.

LTM said...

YES! Waiting does make you/me crazy!!! I hate it, and I tend to do that "avoid the bath" thing also... what's that about??? bizarre...

best of luck! Can't wait to hear what happens~ :o) <3

Just think, by the time you get thru these comments, another half-hour will have passed by!

Mary@GigglesandGuns said...

So the idea of this post is to make us crazy while we wait with you, right? That's ok, since we're friends and all. Only make sure you don't forget to let us know when we're done waiting.
Hope you have the greatest outcome.

I know very little sign language and would LOVE to learn more!

Um, yes, Jersey shore is a total guilty pleasure in my house. Weekly. :)

Dianne K. Salerni said...

Waiting is hard, really hard. When I'm waiting, I work on a different writing project and try to forget I'm waiting to hear on that other one.

It's all a lot of pretending, but it passes the time.

Colene Murphy said...

Sign language?! Cleaning?! FISH IN A BAG?! You wild woman you. I would love to do all those things!! At least you're keeping busy while waiting!

Shelley Sly said...

Ugh, waiting is the worst! But I wish you good news in the future and have fun keeping busy! :) :)

Lynda R Young as Elle Cardy said...

please stop cleaning. You are making the other writers look bad ;)

Anonymous said...

Oh, good luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Also, number one made me happy.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

I have yet to become so desparate that I clean!

Hanny said...

Tom Petty said that waiting is the hardest part. It can be excruciating, can't it?

Jemi Fraser said...

Waiting stinks!

I ended up having to clean instead of write much this weekend - there really was no choice left! :)

Ann said...

You really need to ease up the laundry cleaning and household chores. That is just not right! Seriously, just not right!

Kari Marie said...

I know I've been playing the Sims too much when I get mad, I envision minuses floating above my head.

Bethany Elizabeth said...

You're so much better at occupying yourself during times of waiting than I am. :) Nintendo is my go-to distractor. :D

Jennifer Hillier said...

Look at you, being all productive while you wait! Very impressive, Jen!

I'm sending you great big vibes that you hear a positive response back on the manuscript soon, my friend. You have worked so hard and you so deserve it!

Jennie Bailey said...

Oh Jen, I wish you were closer - we could take a sign language class together. The waiting is the hardest part. And every writer I know has zero patience - kind of a cruel joke on us all, isn't it? With how slow this business moves? Distractions work best. I'm glad you're avoiding baths, but hope you are still showering. ;-)

Donea Lee said...

I know waiting blows - but, look at everything you're getting done!! Yay! That's wonderful that you're learning sign language. Any new language is a challenge - I keep hoping I'll be tri-lingual one of these days... (still just the English, so far...) Haven't been up to much, exept writing, myself. But, I'd love to take a pottery class. :)
