X is for Xanthine

Definition: a family of chemicals that includes caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine, which stimulate the central nervous system, act on the kidneys to produce diuresis, stimulate cardiac muscle, and relax smooth muscle.

Yeah I don’t care about what it means either. It had the word caffeine in it and it start with X I was just following challenge rules. I also don’t want to cheat and use what I used last year (which I still haven’t looked at) so I’m going original.

Since obviously I have no idea what this word means chances are you know that I’m not really speaking on the topic of Xanthine and what it means for you… because it means nothing for you.

Instead I’m talking CAFFEINE (and it counts since it’s part of the definition)!

Writers would be non-existent without the help of caffeine. That cappuccino in the morning and soda in the afternoon is what keeps us up long enough to get through a full day’s work, put the kids to bed and have just a few moments of solitude to check our email, tweet, lurk on faceplace and finally write a few words.

So what’s your drug of choice (Caffeine people… don’t be putting crack, heroine or copious amounts of alcohol… I don’t want to report you).

Energy drinks, and believe it or not, the ones with low caffeine.

Brilliant X post! And so true--I depend on coffee in the morning (and sometimes at other times). Even my young children know this about me. In the evenings, it's caffeinated soda. Someday, my bones will just dissolve away into nothing. But until then, I'll be alert and writing.

I love, love, love coffee.. It's my best friend in the morning. But because I only have caffeine in the morning, sometimes, at night, when I'm getting ready for bed, I can't wait for morning just so that I can have a cup of coffee, lol...

also I'm having a book giveaway. would love for you to post it.. thanks!

caffeine gives me heartburn:-( I really could never stand the taste of any kind of coffee but over the years I've learned to like coffee flavored ice cream, is there caffeine in that? I never know cause caffeine really doesn't provide me with an energy boost at all, it's like I'm immune... except for the heartburn. Stop in & read X is for Xylocopa

X-traordinary X post!

For me it's coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon.

Did you ever notice how hard it is to type the letter x because we hardly use it. My finger just doesn't want to move that way, lol.

Coffee, as we speak... I love how you bend the rules to fit. I do that all the time, too! Well done.

I live on coffee - morning, day and night :)

I love coffee - but it's so strong here (Portugal) it gives me the jitters if I drink more than one tiny cup.
Brilliant X word, just wish I could pronounce it. I had to cheat today with mine.

I'm trying to kick my coffee habit so I can sleep better. It's my fourth day off and I'm still going strong!

Diet Pepsi. Preferably with a hit of Cherry Grenadine in with it!! YUM!!!!!! I'm really trying to cut back on it, though, because I need to drink more water. Think of my bones, you know? BUT OH.....it's yummy!

I don't like coffee. I do like how it smells though! Chocolate is my choice. Lucky for me I have some Easter candy leftover, yay!

Caffeine, caffeine, caffeine! And wine. Alcohol. Whatever!

My blog's disappeared so I'm temporarily here

I think I'd have to say tea. Like Laura, I do not like coffee--except for the smell of it. A taste of Pepsi every now and then helps gets me through, too.

Bring it on, girlfriend! Caffeine is my life support. :-)

No coffee for me. I like unsweetened iced tea or water with lemon, lime, cucumber, whatever. But, really, iced tea is the drug.

I love tea. Earl Grey or Pomegranate Green Tea or Mango Green Tea from The Tea Source.

I like caffeine but it gives me migraines if I indulge too much. Gotta be careful!

hahaha. Yeah, caffeine will do me just fine.

Caffeine, to a limited extent. Too much makes me jittery, and then I spend too much time backspacing. :D

Red Bull and Coffee :) Believe it or not though, too much just makes me crash and sleep fitfully for a while.

Diet Coke is my caffeine of choice. It's true that there are days I couldn't survive without it!

Coffee or tea, depending on the time and circumstance. Right now it's tea. It helps calm down my allergy attack. Evil pollens.

I don't know what I'd do without caffeine! I drink equal amounts of coffee and tea, but my day MUST start with coffee or I won't get anything done.

I tried to give up coffee once. It wasn't pleasant. Everybody is happier now that I'm back to drinking it.

Diet Pepsi but I think I always buy caffeine free, lol. So, water, tea, and energy drinks (5 hour). Plus an insane writer thing that does not require me to sleep much. I think we all have that too ;)

Everyone's X postings are so creative!

I'd never heard of xanthine (maybe because I drink very little caffeine) so I feel like I've learned something today.

A good old fashioned latte - or on a very hot day in the shop - a good old fashioned coca cola - or in the evening, a dark handsome smokey cup of Lapsang Souchong... mmmm
Damn, now look what you've done, the craving is off again!

I would definitely not be able to write if it wasn't for caffeine. Whether it be coffee or Coke, I need that jolt to get going on a writing project.

Straight up black coffee works for me!
But I prefer Dunkin Donuts which gets a little pricey so sometimes I just suffer without. This is because I'm also lazy when it comes to making my own.

I think I'm one of the few writers who doesn't drink much caffeine. Every once in a while, I'll have a cup of coffee or team in the morning, but I don't drink soda. Every once in a blue moon, I'll crave a Coke, but yeah...pretty boring.

I do love the smell of coffee and when we go out, I'll order a cappuccino.

OH!!! Chocolate covered espresso beans! When I can get my hands ont them, I inhale 'em like a hoover.

Diet Mountain Dew. But there must be crack in it, because sometimes I dream about buying a 12 pack at the store...
