HP Week - So you wanna be accepted

Are you curious about Pottermore? Well I’ve figured it out.

JK Rowling has been hiding the Wizarding world from us. Now she’s read to open the gates to just a few and let everyone else watch online (Big Brother style).

Are you an avid fan? Do you know the essentials needed for first years?

Best get on the train and head to Diagon Alley because if you want a shot on getting inside you’re going to need supplies. What? You think I’m wrong about Pottermore? Your loss. One less person I’ve got to fight for a spot in McGonagalls transfiguration class.

First, be yourself. She’s already met Harry, Hermione, and Ron. She doesn’t want you to paint a scar on your face, add some glasses, or wear hand-me down robes. That is NOT how you’re going to get inside.

I plan on making my dress robes bad ass. Put a little zebra on the inside? Hell yeah. On the outside it looks school efficient… on the inside, everyone will know you’re the life of the party.

Here’s a list of regular supplies (cuz I’m nice like that).

Uniform
Three Sets of Plain Work Robes (Black)
One Plain Pointed Hat (Black) for day wear
One Pair of Protective Gloves (dragon hide or similar)
One Winter Cloak (Black, silver fastenings)
Please note that all student's clothes should carry name-tags.

Books
The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1) by Miranda Goshawk
A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot
Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling
A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch
One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi by Phyllida Spore
Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander
The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble

Other Equipment
1 Wand
1 Cauldron (pewter, standard size 2)
1 set of glass or crystal phials
1 telescope
1 set of brass scales
Students may also bring an Owl OR a Cat OR a Toad.
PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT FIRST YEARS ARE NOT ALLOWED THEIR OWN BROOMSTICKS.

So… what are you going to do to get your foot in the door? How are you standing out?

I know they’ve got a spot:
Laurel Garver
Michael Di Gesu
Abby Minard
Melissa Sarno
Renae Mercado
Colene Murphy
Lisa Galek

He he, hilarious! There was a lot of news about 'Pottermore' wasn't there? I'll be seeing the last movie instalment next week. Looking forward to it.

I'd probably have to go the squib route, somehow getting hired on in the manner of Hagrid, Firenze, or Filch. Preferably Hagrid.

I plan to land my Cosbolt right in the middle of the courtyard. That should get their attention!

hahaha!

Dude, your dress robe sounds like a mullet. Business in front, party in the back... I think mine would be a deep, forest green with fur trimmings (in the winter, anyway).

:) :) :)

Hmm, how to stand out...I think I'd train my owl in some cool arial maneuvers. Nothing would make morning mail more exciting than having my Screech owl doing spiral dives and somersaults.

We have a babysitter so we're going on Sunday! I can't wait!

I've yet to check out Pottermore, because I tend to shy back from stampedish mob-mentality of new media until the dust settles a bit and I can take a closer look. It might kill me, but I'm not even seeing HP7 pt 2 until at least Sunday or even next week, although I blame an out-of-state family wedding for disrupting my plans (maybe we can sneak out of the reception early and hit the theatre...)

So I'll have to report back later on my magical pet of choice, dress robes and whether or not I'll try out for Quidditch.

I have these fantasies that she's read some of my fan fiction and knows I have channeled her. I am signed up for Pottermore... as for me standing out as a first year... My physical coordination isn't great, but my ability at concentration is good... I think Charms is an early strength--defense against the dark arts when it is still just info... and then in 3rd year, I will really start to shine with Runes and Arithmancy. I will be a cursebreaker.

This just made me extra excited for the movie!! I'm going to the Double Feature this Thursday and I CAN'T WAIT. Also, my friend told me that if I dress up, she will not go in with me.
Pfft. She's in for it.

Fantastic Jen....

You'd never have to worry about not standing out. Your effervescence is contagious.
