Hello All!!! It's Thursday so the truths shall come out!
1. I want an occasion to wear a little black dress. I see it all the time in the movies but I've never had the opportunity to have a reason to wear one. Shall I make one up?
2. My refrigerator is organized both inside and outside. I'm very much an organizer, different shelves hold certain items. Magnets on the outside have to be evenly (or at least creatively placed)... as does the menu and papers for the week.
3. I always keep a few books by my side table for when I need a kick in the pants. I can read the acknowledgements and remind myself all the people who are counting me (obvs not the people in the book but you get the point).
4. I love comedies and lately they've been rolling right in. Friends with Benefits, The Change-Up, and Horrible Bosses all had me laughing out loud. I love to laugh (I think you new that).
5. I have a jewelry box but rather than fill it with jewelery it is filled with hair clips. I have a ton of them and they're all fabulous.
So there are the hard, crazy, strange truths. Got anything you'd like to add?

I have a shelf full of beautiful, leather-bound notebooks, none of which I've ever dared write in. There's something...I dunno...almost sacrilegious about messing with the pristine white paper....
I want a jewelry box full of fabulous hair clips. I think you need to do a giveaway of this:)
My only truth today is that my online friends rock!
I think my truth would be that I'd never want you to see my fridge - it sounds the complete opposite of yours ;)
Occasions for the little black dress... Any restaurant that has cloth napkins and cloth table- coverings warrant the little black dress. If you aren't going to a "cloth-using restaurant", just throw the dress on, do yourself up, and walk down the nearest main street looking like you have somewhere to be. If someone you know stops you and asks where you are going all dolled up, just flash them a wicked grin and say "can't talk, I'm meeting someone, call me!" If you are feeling really daring, stop at a flower shop and buy yourself a bouquet to walk back down the street with.
I have a drawer full of hair accessories.
Occasions are a state of mind. Where the little black dress. :)
Truths... Getting to know oneself is the first step in opening up to others who you REALLY are...
My truth... I LOVE HP.... Hey Jen I have a fun article for the Thestral Gazette today. I hope you can make it to Laurel's blog....
LOL! Love these. I have two of the most amazing little black dresses you've ever seen. And yea, don't wear them. 1) I need to lose some poundage to do them justice 2) no occasion - yet!
When I saw #2 I thought I was reading about myself! Glad I'm not the only one! :)
My truth today....I didn't wash my hair. I woke up late and I just didn't feel like it. And now I feel gross.
Thanks for sharing your truths and letting me share mine!
I stopped waiting for occasions to wear my LBD. (And my sequins. And my lace leggings. And just about everthing else in my closet) Gets me a few stares when I go to Target or the movies, but I feel fabulous, so totally worth it.
I have three little black dresses and sometimes I'll put one of them on and watch TV. This does not faze my husband.
Come over and you can borrow one but you can't look in my fridge either. It's a scary place.
Jen, except for No. 5, my list is almost identical to yours! The only reason I have jewelry in my jewelry box, is Mom recently took up beading and has been sending the most gorgeous necklaces.
P.S. I've left a response to your comment on Bird's-eye View, http://michellefayard.blogspot.com/2011/07/getting-blog-comments-to-work-for-you.html.
I know EXACTLY what you mean about the little black dress thing. Where are all the cocktail parties and society dinners? I mean, really. :)
you should put on your lbd and just go get a cupcake. There never has to be a "good reason" to get dressed up. Yay!
I really want to see Horrible Bosses... b/c i love to laugh, too, and I've been needing a good one. While I'm in the midst of organizing my bookcase. Last thing~ :o) <3
I have a pretty cool jewelry box that matches our bedroom furniture, but i'm too scared to put anything valuable in it, because i think that's where burglars go first! lol. Good idea to store hair clips in there!
I've always wanted an occasion for a little black dress, too. It just sounds so swank, you know?
Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself. :)
Truth? If you lived closer, I would PAY YOU to come over and organize my fridge. It's embarrassing and I can never find anything!
I think you should go out and buy that little black dress, along with a pair of fabulous stilettos. Wear it out to dinner. Because that's what rock stars do. :)
The only kind of cake I'll eat is carrot cake. Delicious.
I put important things in "special" hiding spots so I don't lose them... too bad I rarely remember where the "special" hiding spots are. :/
GREAT post!
RE no. 1: You should make an occassion for a little black dress! I firmly believe there is no such thing as over dressing. When we lived in Saint Louis I had a couple occassions that I could wear a cocktail dress or an evening gown...Can you guess what I wore? Find an occassion Jen! Create it yourself if you have to...
I was working at this little, grungy cafe by the beach, and this girl came in for breakfast wearing a long blue dress and a fabulously large hat. There was no occasion, which I thought was so awesome. So bust out that LBD!
Hey Jen! Ok so here's my 5 to your five:
#1 - I'd first need the BODY necessary to wear a little black dress...and yes, you should totally make up an occasion to wear one. :)
#2 - My refrigerator is probably the complete opposite of your refrigerator...COMPLETE opposite.
#3 - I need to do this...
#4 - Me, too! I'm going to see Crazy, Stupid, Love with the girls tonight. Can't wait!
#5 - I envy people who can pull of fabulous hair clips. My hair has banned them, sadly...
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!
Next Tuesday. Next Tuesday is an occasion when you should wear a LBD. If that doesn't work for you, try Wednesday.
@Jennifer re: not washing hair. Discover the wonders of dry shampoo! It sprays on like hairspray, you let it set for a few minutes, then brush it out. It soaks up all the grease and gives your hair texture. My hair looks BETTER after using it!
Regarding the little black dress. You can buy a basic black sleeveless sheath which works a lot of ways - with a sweater over or turtleneck under for work, with a cute belt and jewelry (or hair clips!) to go out. It's not too fancy but if it fits well it will make you feel like a million bucks!
I had the revelation a few years ago that life is too short to wear ugly shoes. I looked down at my sensible loafers that were scuffed on the sides and I felt sad. I threw them away and now I wear varying height heels every day. And they're comfortable! I feel so much better about myself when I know I have a little style going on.
