WiP Wednesday

This week is crazy over at Jules week! The fabulous Ashley is hosting an intersting blog crawl. Stop by Jules to see!

I haven't done these in forever (WiP Wednesday I mean)! I adore them! They are my favorite posts to read of others (confession: only when they're short - don't worry. I follow my own rules - this time).

So here is something from my latest 2011 piece - It's Untitled.

He kissed me, the soft touch of his lips left butterflies in my stomach. I kept my eyes closed. If I opened them everything would go back to normal. His fingers ran through my hair, I gasped. My eyes opened and he was gone.

The butterflies fluttered away. I was left with nothing but emptiness. Sitting up against the backboard pulling my legs together and wrapping my arms tightly around me. My salty tears fell across my cheeks. I wanted to forget Carson but it wasn't that easy.

There you have it... So what are you working on?

Very sweet! I know that feeling... you do a nice job here of recreating it for the reader.

I'm working on a YA mystery right now. And on revising Goddess of Vengeance so that it's all shiny and pretty and I can finally query it - I've been slacking on revisions! Maybe I'll post a snippet of the new story tonight when I get home from work - I haven't been doing WIP Wednesdays either, and I love reading others excerpts too! :)

Nice and softly steamy.

Me: queries, research, and outlining. I'm pulling my hair out. lol

Nice scene. I felt her longing.

I haven't worked on my WIP in too long, but here's an excerpt from a Halloween party from my manuscript Naked Eye:

The doorbell rings a few times and people start streaming in. I try not to crane my neck to spot Orion, but I keep craning my neck to spot Orion. Some people barely dress, while others have elaborate costumes. Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz comes in with the shortest skirt I’ve ever scene. Then I see a female chef with short-shorts and fishnets. “Yeah, that would be practical in the kitchen,” I mumble to Morgan. One guy is dressed as a surgeon and keeps asking the girls to examine their breasts. “It’s okay, I’m a doctor.” Lame.

VEry nice. Interested to see more. ;)
Still revising you know what and outlining something new. Too much going on in my head. :)

What a great blurb from your WIP. I love it. It makes me want to read your manuscript.

My two primary WIPs are both retellings one Beauty and the Beast, and the other Snow White.

Thornbriar (Beauty and the Beast) which involves a very bad tempered, vain and caustic Beauty, and a Beast whose entire kingdom is under a curse that just might kill them when Beauty cures it...

And

Schneewittchen (Snow White) which is a dystopian that involves nano technology, gene tampering and a girl with a mean right hook.

I'm almost done with a first draft of my first YA - so I've written my first kissing scenes. Wow they could become addicting! Thanks for sharing, Jen! Cute.

I'm all tingly. Love the name Carson. Probably because I never dated one. JUST KIDDING!

What am I working on? This week is kind of shot.

Glad you decided on a name for your sexy man. Love this excerpt.

I'm working on the end of my plot outline and character development for my 6th novel.

Happy writing!

You may regret this:

Math questions!

1. Sam bought 4 candy bars at $1.23 each. How much did Sam spend altogether?

First, Sam spent too much and second, what kind of candy bars did he buy? !!That is really the important question to answer. LOL

If it wasn't for tutoring, I would have more time to write. Your piece was much, much more fun to read then what I'm doing (or should be doing right now).

great short read! I'm very interested in what will happen, or what has happened to Carson.

Right now I'm working on non-fiction essays for class, my 500 word goal statement for my masters and my ten page writing sample for my masters.

I really like the line "If I opened them everything would go back to normal." Says so much. Very nice, Jen!

eeeek bet you culd have guessed I would be head over heels for that one lol.

I am a bad little writer... my works are all sitting unnatended at the present time.... ugh I feel so guilty... and yet so free

Oh, that is so beautiful. I love it. :)

I'm working on a short story right now, although if it keeps going at this rate it won't be a short story anymore, HA!

I haven't worked on the novel at all the past couple of weeks because I've been working on the short. There's just not enough time in the day. *sigh*

Happy writing!

Ooo...very nice. I already want to read more!

I'm taking the day off of writing since I'm having issues typing at normal pace due to a cut on my finger...stupid dog food can... But enjoying the time spent catching up on everyone's blogs!

Still working on the same novel. Maybe if I worked on it more often, it would take me ... years?

I like this piece, Jen. I like the first person perspective, and the butterfly allusion. I'm still at work, slowly revising my two stories. Good luck in 2011!

Untitled sounds Untriguing. Well, Intriguing actually. I was trying for a theme there, but it didn't quite work.

That's a juicy snippet!

I'm currently world-building like crazy. I think it's starting to drive me crazy. But at least it's fun!

Talli Roland said...

Oooh! Lovely snippet! I feel all smushy and shivery inside!

Ooh, nice Jen! I'm not working on anything right now- still in revisions!

Great tease of a piece! Love it!
I've started editing one of my current WIPs. Much work to be done.

Stina said...

Oh wow! That was good.

I'm working on getting the courage to start querying, and I'm editing my new wip. I'm loving it so much, it's easy to forget to send out queries. Hmmm. What would I rather do? Spend time with characters I love, or spend time researching agents who'll just end up sending a Dear Writer rejection (if they even do that much). Tough call! :D

Great tidbit! Love this.

Shannon said...

Good teaser there. =) Makes me want to know more!

I'm still working on edits and rewrites. Good times.

Ooh, love it :) And right now, I'm working on writing a query ... which I'm finding is a lot harder than I thought it would be ... (I thought writing the book was supposed to be the hard part???)

Melissa said...

I love this JEN! I didn't know you were working on a new project! I'd love to here more if you want to email me about it!

What a pretty scene~ I imagined a lot of colors for some reason. (:

Right now I'm getting back into drawing while writer's block takes over. My brain is currently in hibernation (I've been out of school on holiday since december 10th).

Sadly, nothing. I'm working on reading right now. I've been a little stressed and fried. I need like 10 naps and I'll get back to you.
