We all have imaginations! As writers we just know how to use them! With fall officially here my imagination is flowing! J.K. Rowling has one of the best imaginations and after watching her interview on Oprah and the latest Harry Potter trailer I find myself hoping to find the same imagination within myself to make a world unlike any other!
When is your imagination at it's best?

Probably in the early morning when my house is still fast a sleep and I sit on my own by the notebook:) Happy Monday, sweetie
Hope you had a wonderful weeekend
This kind of weather certainly helps! Good luck and may the creative juices flow!
My imagination is at its best when I am totally swamped. When my head is bursting at the seams...that's when the ideas just pop in.
Ideas seem to come to me either right as I'm falling asleep or just as I'm waking. I am certainly most productive in the morning.
Usually in the morning, but the kid's energy is in full force. Also, when I'm cleaning things come to me.
Hoep you are well. :)
*whispers* Early morning or late at night when only the house elves and fairies are about and the rest of the humans are sleeping. ;)) I'm looking forward to the latest HP movie too! ;)
When I'm on walks.
My imagination is at its best when I'm asleep. I get a lot of inspiration from dreams. But if I'm awake, my imagination seems to be at its peak either when I'm completely busy or when I have nothing at all to do and can just daydream.
Hmm...such a nice thing to ponder this morning. Probably when I am walking, lstening to particularly inspiration music. Thanks for getting me thinking abou this.
I think it's at its best during a first draft. Things just start popping out and going places that can only be attributed to my imagination totally taking over. Great post!
Imagine is my favorite word of all time.
Jo Rowling is my idol.
That means I love this post!
Also, my imagination tends to get chatty at inconvenient times like on walks, and when I'm in the shower. I've been known to sit down on a curb with a piece of scrap paper while my dog stands impatiently by, waiting for me to finish.
I have no idea. I haven't kept tabs on it. Um ... when I'm imaginative, I suppose. ;o)
When I'm folding laundry.
My imagination is so unpredicatble it's insane. It likes to spring suprises on me whenever it feels like it, but usually when I'm in the middle of something else. lol.
I missed that Oprah, but hear it was really good. Rowling has to be the queen of imagination, definitely! My imagination is best when I'm rested, probably early in the day.
My imagination hits overdrive when I'm tired - ususally as I'm trying to fall asleep. I really need to have better timing.
When I sleep! And I'm bethfred08 on twittier!
fall and rainy days help- late at night and after seeing something ispirational- art, music, an interesting person walking down the street- those kinda things are like the spark to the gunpowder :)
hi miss jen! wow i gotta say my imagination is like a spinning top cause it just keeps on going even when im sleeping. im a big day dreamer and night dreamer and lot of time my teacher or my brothers or sister have to say "where are you lenny?" sometime im caught up in some neat stuff in my head and i say "wait a minute i gotta finish my thought." i like imagining stuff and putting it into my stories.
...hugs from lenny
When I'm running, that's when my mind is most clear. Believe it or not, I've also gotten some of my best story ideas when I'm dusting or cleaning my kitchen.
Great to meet you, Jen!
What fun poems!
I have to look for the J.K. Rowling-Oprah interview. She's got one of the best imaginations.
My ideas strike in strange places at strange times. Really, anytime, anyplace.
Have an inspirational day.
I thought her interview was so intriguing. In fact i may re-watch it today to pick up on anything I may have missed.
Unfortunately my imagination is best right when I'm about to fall asleep. LOL!
"Sometimes" I remember what I think about and sometimes I forget.
Loved her on Oprah, and I agree. When I first picked up a HP, instant other world, dream like. I think I'm most imaginative in my dreams, and luckily I can remember most. It's also in the middle of the night that I'll get the itch to paint or rearrange furniture, or just zone out into some kind of creative project. Unfortunately, daily life limits the energy I have to scratch such itches. Thankfully, there are many outlets.
My imagination is at it's best when I'm driving. Oddly, I loathe driving. Hmmph. Figures.
Night time. Definitely at night. Right before I go to sleep. If I don't write it down, I won't remember it in the morning. I think it's when I let my guard down and the imagination seeps in.
my imagination has no schedule. He surprises me all day long. Driving, walking, working, reading, internetting, talking, sitting doing nothing, watching tv. He just likes to imagine people doing things, why theyre doing things, what they are thinking. So if you ever find me snickering alone, its probably his fault...
That's easy: at NIGHT!! I am such a night owl writer. No wonder I'm a paranormal junkie.
My imagination really kicks in when I'm listening to music. My mind connects the stories or moods of the music to the stories in my head. In fact, I'm currently listening to a song from a planned pieces "playlist." I can totally see the MC singing it.
When I'm designing a character. Ideas of who they are and how they came to be pop in to my head. I have to filter out the crazy stuff, but it's great. I get excited and giddy, sometimes a little crazy. :)
Happy Monday Jen. I hope you had a lovely weekend.
This may be weird but my imagination is at its best the few moments before I fall asleep and the few moments just as I am waking up haha
xxxooo
Jillian
For me it's just as I'm nodding off for the night. I keep telling myself "Write it Down!" but my other half says "Just repeat it in my head over and over; I'll remember it in the morning." But it doesn't work:0(
Loved this.
MY imagination is probably at its best when I'm listening to music and my mind is allowed to wander. Things just go crazy in my head, then.
I agree with Melissa - mine's best when music occupies my thoughts.
My imagination is sporadic. *sigh*
Normally around nature, or after watching a really awesome movie. :)
mine flows at 1 am every night my imagination has OCD
Definitely when I take a break, and do something that I wouldn't normally do - the newness of the new routine sparks creativity in me. That, or after lunch, between 2 and 4 PM, for some reason. :)
My imagination is best when I'm about to go to bed...or taking a shower...or working out haha :)
J.K. Rowling was on Oprah?? Darn, I would have loved to have seen that! When I'm driving my imagination takes flight. I'm waiting for a GPS device that voice records AND types!
Oh, I've been wanting to watch the interview, but haven't managed to find it online yet (I missed the actual interview itself). J.K. Rowling definitely has one of the best imaginations ever. The world she created is so magical and lovely.
My imagination is at its best moments before I fall asleep. There's something therapeutic about just letting your imagination runs wild without worrying about other things.
On rainy days like today! Or when I eat chocolate just before I go to bed - that gives me Alice falling down the rabbit hole type dreams!
My imagination is at its best when I don't care what the world thinks and just go with the flow.
When I'm running with my headphones on. That's when it's best. Unfortunately, it's not a good position for typing...
I've recorded that Oprah interview--can't wait to watch it. What an incredible imagination J.K. Rowling has!
When it's not on vacation. And clearly, fall fever has hit, so my brain/imagination has taken off. Oh well. :)
Thank you so much for your kind words on my blog! It is an honor to have you as a follower. Cinema is a passion to me. But honestly, we'd be nothing without you writers to back us up. :p
I also recently watched the Rowling interview on Oprah. Was I the only one who felt slightly intimidated watching the two most powerful women on the planet talk to each other?
when I'm wearing headphones, rainy days, late at night, when I close my eyes....
great post!
I enjoyed that interview...for the most part. Oprah started getting on my nerves - she spoke over JK and cut her off several times. I wanted to hear more of what JK had to say - I think she's fascinating.
As far as the best times for me...in the shower and when I'm falling asleep (talk about inopportune times for writing).
When real life stops intruding with things to do, places to be...my imagination is a greedy beggar and demands lots of wide open mental real-estate before it wakes up. Which is probably why it's hiding in a corner refusing to come out to play right now :-(
AACK! I missed J.K.'s interview on Oprah. I could cry :( Ok, I won't cry, but I'm pretty bummed! How amazing was it? She really does have the best imagination ever. Roald Dahl was another author with an incredible imagination!
I'm never home early enough to see Oprah - I've got to catch that one in reruns!
Creating entire worlds that ring true is so cool. I hope to one day pull it off! :)
When I go running. :D
I really wish I had seen JK Rowling on Oprah. Unfortunately it clashed with something else. Can't remember what though.
I'm still trying to pinpoint it! My muse seems to ebb and flow whenever it chooses:)
Mine is always running on high, but it's probably at its best in the late night/early morning hours. That time is just magical to me.
I've lost all my imagination lately. I'd say it's at its best usually in the winter because I'm holed up inside so much... Anyway, I'm hoping it comes back soon :)
I saw that interview too! It inspired me a lot. Imagination is key for writers I think. My imagination is at it's best when I'm outside or have access to the outdoors, like a window with a great view.
My imagination is at it's best when I'm focused. =)
My imagination is at it's best when I just let it go. I let all sanity and reason fall behind and let my mind soar. It's great fun. I love it!!
In the shower, of course. When I'm too wet to do anything about it!
I never watch Oprah, but I would've liked to have seen Rowling. Oh well.
I find that my mind is freest in a few places. 1. In the shower. 2. While driving. 3. While cleaning the house. and 4. While lying in bed, right after I wake up.
I recorded that one and just watched it tonight. I think she is amazing (JK) and wish I could meet her. Or be her. Or just have her talent with writing. Yeah.
Hi Jen, I just drop by your blog and I find it so lovely. Thank you for following me, and I've followed you back. Well, my imagination is at best when I'm going to sleep.
I'm the same with fiction spark (above). My imagination works overtime when I'm trying to fall asleep, which really doesn't work out for me. Ahhh, to sleep...
I adore JK Rowling. She's the best.
Jai
Love this! Me too! :D my imaginations at it's best when I force it out!
