Sucky Ideas... How to Improve

Are you tired of crap ideas?

Or no ideas at all?

Well the idea bucket is here to save the day, just follow the simple steps listed below!

Place the bucket at the edge of your bed right before you retire that evening.
Recite the mantra "Fill my bucket" three times for the best outcome.

Customer Reviews:
Amy, 35, housewife - I've been struggling for years trying to think of the perfect story when this informercial came on, I had to try it! Thank goodness I did, now I'm going to be a published author all thanks to ideabucketworks!

Disclaimer: We do not give refunds, this method works and we stand by our product. However we are told to notify you that Amy has been compensated for her false review. She did not come up with an idea and is not becoming a published author. We still stand by our product.

If all ideas happened this quickly there would several people writing their hearts out! Unfortunately as writers the one thing that is amazing about us is something that often gives us the most trouble. Ideas do come out of thin air... that's when they're the best, something in our mind is triggered and brilliance erupts on the page.

Lauren Conrad, Hilary Duff, and Snooki do not count.

So if you're feeling a little low on ideas don't fret, they'll start flowing again! For my NaNo I needed to come up with a fresh idea... well if you've checked out my WiP World tab you know that I have all the ideas in the world, and the minute I signed up for NaNo my idea machine broke (No I do not have a machine... or an actual bucket) but after digging a bit I came up with my idea!

So when the ideas are low here are some tips:
1. Watching Jersey Shore might help - I mean it worked for Snooki
2. Imagine what it would be like if you were a pint size little barbie (or Ken) living among humans (Aren't you curious to how you would survive?)
3. Go to a drive-in movie theater and count how many couples are making out... then shower them with popcorn.
4. Watch I know what you did last summer (every edition) and Scream (every edition) to know what NOT to do in those situations.

What? Did you think they were actually going to help you come up with ideas? I'm not the frickin' idea fairy... go find your own.

ROFL! My problem has NEVER been being without an idea. My problem is I have SO MANY ideas all clamoring for my attention that it is hard to focus on just one. (Don't tell anyone, but I've been near paralized unable to decide what to write about.)

Don't laugh but there are places that the FAIRIES roam- and Snookie- not her. I hit the library or the bookstore and read mad jacketflaps ONLY- no pages. I hit the history and non fic sections too. Also- try this website called seventhsanctum.com for a giggle. Really, if you are stuck it's funny and maybe it will spark something- there are lots of idea generator sites if you've a serious block.

Laura S. said...

Awesome! I haven't seen that infomercial yet! I'm going to YouTube it and then mail my money right away!!! WOOHOO!!!

Lol, thanks for the laugh today, Jen!!!

Lisa Galek said...

LOL - my idea bucket fills itself at night. Some of my best ideas are from dreams (of course, then I have to work out the crazy parts).

Funny post, Jenn! Now I have to brew up some ideas.

Jenny B. Jones said...

When you do become the freakin' idea fairy, please let us know. I need to talk to her.

Diana Paz said...

Hi Jen, what a fun blog you have! Thanks for stopping by mine, your post is so funny. If there was such thing as an idea fairy, she'd (he'd?) probably own an idea bucket. We're better off on our own!

I could use an idea bucket sometimes! LOL.

Count me out on the idea bucket. I'm always struggling to find time to write the ideas I have already. I like big long stories and series where the characters become like family. I always envy short story writers.

Kimberly Franklin said...

LOL. Loved your post! And everyone can mail their 9.99 payments to me and I'll beam them fabulous ideas to their bucket! LOL. :)

Jennifer Lane said...

Hey Jennifer! Nice to "meet" you and thanks for stopping by my blog. Not to be too Stephenie Meyer-like, I actually got an idea in a dream for the novel I'm currently working on. I also get ideas when I'm out for a walk. Great post!

Michelle said...

Maybe I'm a little off-base here, but this post has the makings of a great story. :-O No kidding! Just needs some character development and a big win for the finish!
