Jessica Bell is on her tour and by far this is one of the most special days for me. I love the blogging community, the outpouring of support for every beautiful writer that crosses our path.
Today is a very special day for me... Jessica is one I've adored from the get go. Constantly captivated by her handiwork I can never get enough. If you've never read her poetry you must, the rawness cannot be matched.
I'm not here to talk about her poetry though, unless you want to chat about how poetic her debut novel String Bridge is.
The cover art is brilliant, is it not?
Greek cuisine, smog and domestic drudgery was not the life Australian musician, Melody, was expecting when she married a Greek music promoter and settled in Athens, Greece. Keen to play in her new shoes, though, Melody trades her guitar for a 'proper' career and her music for motherhood. That is, until she can bear it no longer and plots a return to the stage--and the person she used to be. However, the obstacles she faces along the way are nothing compared to the tragedy that awaits, and she realizes she's been seeking fulfilment in the wrong place.
Several of us understand giving up something for a family. In this case Melody puts down her guitar to raise her family. At the moment she knew it was the right thing to do. Having no idea that she'll lose everything that she is, her passion starts to dwindle as the emptiness creeps in. This is as story of pushing through what should have been comfortable and breaking through the barrier to find yourself again.
I simply could not get enough of this book. Bell's ability to show emotion from every character is what keeps me coming back for more. The rawness in the words had me feeling every emotion as each page turned. It may be cliche to say that it was one you couldn't put down but when you feel it, you feel it. The poetic nature of the read makes you feel like your floating on clouds through the whole thing.
I will always love Jessica's works. I cannot wait for the next novel of hers, it'll be just as captivating as everything else I've devoured.
