K is for Kick-Ass

Yup bloggers you heard me! K is for Kick-Ass... The weather here in Houston, the wedding I just attended, my trip to Los Angeles, My baby sister having a little girl, my co-worker having just had his little girl, my hubby, my kitties and all you bloggers are KICK-ASS!!! It feels amazing saying it too I'm sure you can tell that I've been waiting for K to come along!!!

What is Kick-Ass in your life right now?

Actual Word: Kite

You know the one's they are high in the sky when the weather is fantastic!! I find the perfect time is in the spring when the air is crisp and the breeze is perfect, you can run a little and quickly unwind the string that supports the whole thing it's amazing to watch something so simple work with just ease when you just believe that it will fly and with a little wind it does. What stinks are the days when the breeze isn't perfect and the kite remains flat on the ground.

Do you ever find this true with your writing? Where one minute your high in the sky and the next minute your flat on the ground? Have you ever thought it might be because you're trying to hard to write something that wasn't meant to be written? I have found that the more I create deadlines for myself the more disappointed I become at the end result whereas if I allow an idea to come to mind it freely flows on the pages as I had intended. I mean think about it have we ever pushed to use our imagination or does our mind just guide us in that direction?

Happy Blogging!

Have filed the K-word away for when a project looms...right now all's humming along, touch wood...I can only write in the morning...edit in the PM...don't know why this is and finally just gave in to the quirk. Lovely post!

Kites are so much fun. Have you ever seen one of the ones that have two strings? You can control how they dip and spin ... it's a lot of fun but pretty dorky too.

So so true about the writing part! Some days it comes... others, it just doesn't!

I was totally going to use kick-ass for my K word today. :-D

I've been bumping around in the grass for a few days now, just waiting for a nice gust of wind to come along...

Maybe it will come tomorrow night??? ;-)

Love the positivity in this post, Jen - thanks! The weather is great here, too - sunny and (sort of) warm. It's all good!

I love the phrase 'kick ass'.

I never thought of that way about the writing. I just let things flow, other than when I have to figure out details that are important I get right.

Great post as usual, Jen!

Talli - Thank you, you're so sweet!! I love fantastic weather!

Stina - Awe Stina you're amazing thank you! I'm glad that you can just let things flow, it's the best way to write!

Kiss-ass is an awesome K word! And I agree! The weather in Houston has been gorgeous lately. :D

Those are very good question! Previously, I was working on a wrong project, and after many months, I finally realized that that was the reason my kite remained flat on the ground. Currently, it's flying high. It doesn't fly prettily, but I'm letting it fly however it wants. I'm just on the first draft right now, so I'm letting myself go with the flow -- otherwise, I'll be stuck.

Sandy - I love Houston! I love when you realize that something isn't working and you know how to fix it!!

I think writing is cyclical and that the highs and lows are something we have to learn to put up with....but maybe that is just me.

I agree that when I give myself deadlines, I tend to rebel against them but without some kind of schedule, too long would go between writing sessions.

You've got a lot going for you right now. Yay!

And yes, this happens in life too. One minute everything is great, the next you have to replace your brakes. Or the washing machine isn't spinning right. Or whatever.

Life is a series of ups and downs, and that's what makes the ride fun. Most of the time.

Oh yeah Jen! I feel that up and down all the time! I think the best K-A feeling I'm having today is that I only have a few more chapters until my 1st draft is done! Woo hoo!!!! =)

My writing has been more like those dreadful nosedives that kites do for no apparent reason. I think I need to take a look at the character motivations or something...the fun graphic cheered me up...great post.

I see what you're saying and everyone works in their own specific way.

I actually much prefer deadlines. I never get anything done without a deadline. It motivates me and keeps me feeling accomplished if I'm working towards it and being diligent. Otherwise I feel like I'm not working at all, just messing around with words and not being serious.

I also make lists for my day. Never am I more productive than when I make a list because then I can tick tasks off as I do them and know that I've accomplished something, instead of floating through my day, doing things here and there and not actually doing anything.

You're so right! When I set out to write literary genius...it sucks. When I least expect it, something I pen takes my breath away. There is definitely a lesson for me in there!

Congrats on a kick-ass blog post!

great word today. Yes I feel that all the time. One minute I'm soaring high and then thud. Lately it's been very little high and a lot of thud. But I think your right. I was pushing my story in the wrong direction and now I've gone back and rethought it through. It's coming easier so today that is what is kickass in my life - I pushed past the place I was stuck.

Ah a great post. Some time I do find myself flying high and at others trying hard to get idea off the ground.

fun word Kick ass I try to be so proper on my blog, not sure why but now I willthink twice, I love it.

Girl, you are right on with your observation about ups and downs of writing -- we can't force ourselves to write something when it's not meant to be written. I'm like you; I write much better with less pressure and more freedom to flow. Nice post! A kick-ass post, even!

Tess said...

Hooray! My kick ass? I just got my first of three critiques back on my WIP and she said it was good.

Great picture and a great analogy!

Things are never perfect, particularly in writing first drafts, but we can celebrate the UPdrafts.
