the little things

Day Two of finishing my novel and I"m still on that original high, I mean I WROTE A BOOK! It still makes me giggle thinking about it! Thank you to all of you for congratulating me!! I know editing is next and I look forward to starting the process!!

So after you're done writing the first draft and you are letting the current completion marinate it's normally a great to have another idea on hand. Revisions will take a lot of time but you still don't want to lose any great idea that comes to you.

So what better than to be inspired!!! Here are a few things or people that inspire me! Also will continue to inspire me because Finding Me isn't over yet I am working on Finding Me 2 because I couldn't fit all into one!

Imogen Heap - Her lyrics allowed me to really get in tune with my character.

My MC was lost in the woods and a picutre helps channel different emotions

This House just reminds me of something magical, like if you walk through it anything could happen!

And this house inspired the Traveler house for my current WIP this isn't exactly what I invision but it's close!

So what inspires you?

Music and dreams both inspire me.

I am like Amanda...

Music and my dreams really influence my writing. It is crazy sometimes how the subconscious can be such a great help ;o)

You got me stumped by that one...because honestly...I'm not sure. Is that weird?

Smells inspire me. Is that weird? When I walk into the mall, for example, I feel a certain way. Opening a window on the first warm day of Spring and letting the house fill with that fresh scent, replacing the stale winter air, affects my mood instantly. Cinnamon brooms in the grocery store, smoke on the autumn air, chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven...

Life's perfumes make me want to write, to capture those feelings so a reader hundreds of miles away is affected emotionally by the smell.

Congrats again on finishing your first draft!

Gorgeous pictures! And congratulations....that's fantastic news about your book :)

Congratulations! I get inspired by lovely things like nature. :)

Amanda & Courtney - I couldn't agree more!!

DL Hammons - I suppose not as long as you're writing and inspiration is indeed in your life then I wouldn't worry about not knowing it!

Nicole - I love that!!! You couldn't be more right, the smell of rain, warm chocolate chip cookies, monkey bread (which I'm making right now!) they help me relate to a character at times! Too fun!

Holli - Thank you so much!

My daughter loves Imogen. I love these pictures, especially the road in the forest on. Pictures sometimes inspire me, but usually it's words or lyrics.

Morning inspires me. The early sunlight on leaves and grass, the noise of bird song, the rooster crowing in the distance, cup of coffee and saying "thanks."

Anything and everything. Especially interesting-looking things when I'm walking around outside, like little holes in the ground that make me say, "Hmm...wonder what caused that?" And then I think about shrinking really small and going down into the hole and finding a goblin kingdom...

I pretty much still have the imagination of a 7-year-old.

The favorite two books that I wrote were inspired by songs I had heard on the internet. The stories just popped into my head after that. Awesome songs! I love the pictures Jen! What a great way to get inspiration. =)

Music always! I just made a new play list for my next WIP last night.

A quiet house, after all the kiddies are in bed inspires me.

Congrats on finishing your manuscript! Good luck with editing--my favorite part!!

Congrats on finishing your manuscript! I remember that high when I finished my first one! (And now I have 4 done!)

I get inspired all the time from random things. My muse is odd that way. I mean, I could be desiging a website and suddenly my brain pops up with a fight scene! My son and my husband are great sources of inspiration - esp my husband, he really helps me get a male perspective on a situation. I think my male characters are more realistic now! My son provides plenty of humor and since I do have a character around the same age, it's perfect!

Imogene Heap is brilliant - totally agree!

Hm, what inspires me is the great outdoors. I love the park, and wandering through the paths and narrow cobbled alleyways of my neighbourhood, staring up at the houses of past literary greats.

Congrats on writing a book! Yay!

Both music and art/picture inspire me, though in slightly different ways. Reading great books also makes me pumped to work on mine. :)

Music and the Bible inspires me. I get so many ideas from both!

Congrats on finishing the novel! Keep ridin' that high....let it carry you through revisions. :)

I love Imogen Heap too! Heard her through Frou Frou.

I find music and movies inspire me... and long drives by myself on moonlit nights. :)

Crystal Cook said...

Still just so proud of you!! And those pictures are great, that house really does look magical!

Music and long drives inspire me, and of course hearing the success stories of others (like you):)

I'm inspired by going to new places--when I travel, I look for stories and possibilities.

Congrats on finishing the book! Imogen Heap is amazing! Sunshine and storms, love and hate, music and pictures and countless other things inspire me. I usually start with a good cup of coffee though. :o)

Specific music, movies and pictures all inspire me. When I play my role-playing game, I get inspired. (I write fantasy after all)

Most of all, my husband inspires me. He's got a great imaginative mind too! However, he let's me take the writing credit. He has dyslexia, so it is difficult for him to put his thoughts to paper. But I do give him credit when I write. :D

Congratulations on your first draft.
It's a fantastic feeling getting to the various points along the way to publication.
Good luck from here!

I can be inspired by anything and everything if my mood is right but when I'm writing I either like silence or some good music on, usually orchestral music like classical or a movie soundtrack. Song lyrics distract me.

Congrats on finishing your manuscript! I'm inspired by the images I capture through the lens of a camera. Looking through a camera lens seems to offer a different perspective on everyday life, and I hope to capture that in my writing too.

So good to finish a book! Hurray! I'm in the middle of two - grrrrr.
What inspires me - walking in the woods is good and listening to Leonard Cohen and talking to my chickens and my children. Oh, and zillions of books - I've been on an Ann Patchet kick lately. But really it could be anything. Dreaming of gardening has me psyched.

Travel to new places, quiet landscapes, and interesting houses (I always wonder who lives where ... all those cars on the road going home) kick my inspiration into gear. Congrats again, Jen!

Music, words, pictures, dreams, weather, art-- so many things inspire me! I do favor music, though. A good song can inspire stories because it feels like a story itself!

Also, CONGRATS on finishing the first draft!! Wooo! Such a great feeling, eh?

Shelley Sly said...

Music definitely inspires me. I often contemplate writing short stories based each on a favorite song. I think they'd be pretty emotional stories. :)

Congrats again on finishing Finding Me, which I'd love to read someday. And good luck with your progress on Finding Me 2, which I think you should call "Found Me", since it's the sequel to "Finding Me", hehehe. Kidding. :D

I listen to imogen heap when I write, too! I also love looking at pictures of snow, and I recently found that I'm most creative after eating sushi.

I love your posts!

I just love that magical house - I want to live there! I'm inspired by movies. Live Bravheart, for example. Every time I watch it (and I can watch the same movie a whole lot of times without getting bored - weird, I know), it makes me want to go out and write about some larger than life hero that stops at nothing, even sacrificing his own life, for a greater good. And I know I said it yesterday, but congrats again on finishing your manuscript - what a fantastic feeling!

Holy crap!!! CONGRATULATIONS on finishing! You are a writer! HOORAH! And you know what inspires me? Really amazing books. There's nothing that makes me want to write more than reading someone else's work of genius.

Everything inspires me. Ideas pop up from every little thing I do, hear, see, feel, touch, smell, etc.

I LOVE Imogen Heap!

Congrats, again, on finishing your first draft!

Music, nature, the kindness of strangers, beautiful things in random places, like once I was in an auto repair shop that was basically just come guy's home garage. It was all greasy and dark and smelly but in the back of the garage there was this gorgeous collection of stained glass pieces that he had made himself as a hobby.

It's such a wonderful feeling to finish a rough draft.

Most of my manuscripts begin with a sentence and go from there. I can make it all up - people, personalities, situations - but I must ground it in a place I know well. Even if I don't describe the places to death, if I know the neighborhood enough to use my five senses, it all becomes real to me.

I love the photos of the two homes. I agree that they're both inspirational.
