Writing for teens

I adore writing several different genres. It is SO much fun. There is something special about teenagers. There minds are open and willing to go on adventures that several adults don't dare.

Whether it be a girl who walks between universes, children who are bait for a reality television show, or a character who's life revolves around a funeral home.

They allow you to be daring. To test their imagination. They want to fall in love with a new idea. They're sponges just waiting for the next amazing thing to scoop up and steal a few extra seconds in the sun finishing their new favorite word.

When I feel I want to dive into unknown territory I open up the world of possibilities and splash into the teen waters.

What are the new ideas floating in your head? I love hearing the amazing stories you all come up with! Mine is a new take on the holocaust (sci-fi style)! It's eerie and spectacular. I'm really enjoying it, so spill!!!! Tell me what you're working on. You can practice your elevator pitch!

Oooh...sounds good!
I'm writing a new romance where I have my hero as--get this--a romance writer. LOL

Teens do allow you to be daring. Actually, I think they expect us to write that way for them, help them explore, ponder, wish, and dream.

Ooo, I love your premise.

I'm editing the sequel to my YA time travel novel.

My shiny idea is for a middle grade dystopian trilogy. :)

You're delving into science fiction? Very cool.

I'm getting ready to rework an old novel that's a reverse fairy tale version of Sleeping Beauty that takes place in the Caribbean.

I've got a story about a rancher and a teacher - lots of fun :)

Your idea sounds cool.

Yay for sci fi. The teens I know are rabid for sci fi or romance. Coincidentally, I'm working on a sci-fi romance. Hmmm.

Hmmm...elevator pitch. Okay, I'll give it a try. Anonymous notes force a girl to revisit a mysterious crime she witnessed four years ago. Your sci fi holocaust idea sounds very intriguing!

I've been kicking around a YA idea for a while now. This post may just have given me the boost I needed to get started on it. Thanks!
