Truth Thursdays

Okay so I thought I'd eventually get bored with this segment but I keep coming back for more and so do you. Guess my honesty (or weirdness) is rubbing off on you... so let's do this.

1. I had WAY too much fun with my hashtag post (happens tomorrow, you don't want to miss it).
2. I find I'm good at subliminal messaging (seriously, check out tomorrows awesome, ahem, tomorrow).
3. DL Hammons 600 follower Clue Hunt has been the most fun I've had since High School (when talking about hunting for clues of course).
4. Pink hair is in, just ask Lisa & Laura (they're too awesome for words).
5. Agatha Christie's msn games can keep me occupied for hours (searching for clues it too entertaining).

Go on... you know you wanna share a secret.

How do YOU choose?

We all have choices...

What stall to select in the restroom.

What we'd like to eat for breakfast in the morning.

What trash magazine to read while waiting in line at the grocery store.

What genre to write in.

How do you decide?

Did you just know you wanted to write Adult or Young Adult all along? There was no question about it, the story just fluttered through your window and inside your brain and viola, it was written in stone?

Is there a fairy that visits you at night and leaves the answer underneath your pillow?

Do you ever find yourself testing out the other genre's before you find the one you like best. Like deciding what to eat for breakfast, when you can't decide you choose both bacon and sausage?

I love to write Young Adult, but I do also have Adult in my idea book as well. I write them all, fantasy, horror, you name it I like to dabble in it, try new things, step outside the box, after all they're my worlds, my creations... it's kind of my rules. What about you?

BTW - I was unable to comment on everyone's blogs the past few days... just know I'm around and I will make it to your blog! I also will soon have some very fun and exciting news to share!!!

Truth Thursdays!

Back again! Another installment! You know they're my favorite!!!

So let's get started... why waste time!

1. The Great Blogging Experiment happens tomorrow (you should stop by) and it's going to be huge. I mean bigger than big, like bigger than Brangelina and Pam Anderson's breasts combined. Too much? Think not.

2. Lisi Harrison visiting Blue Willow... crazy teen fun! She dressed to impress with black and pink to match her adorable novel Monster High, the girls went crazy over her! Asking such excellent questions. It really makes you realize how intellegent young adults are!

3. I'm a caffiene addict. It's ridiculous, Saturday I went five hours without any soda (not by choice... apparently coffee shops sell more coffee than soda... I mean what's up with that?) anywho, I thought I might actually die. I didn't (obviously, but I thought I would).

4. My home cookie (yes I said cookie) Rose Cooper has some creative crap up her sleeve! She's finally folded and allowed her main character Sofia to have her own blog, with rules of course. Adults, teens, and tweens are all welcome and should scoot their tush on over, a huge giveaway is happening, you could become a character in her next novel Gossip from the Boys Room!

5. My new blog buddy Serena is having an adorable blog fest. It's all about location! She gives you a list of places, you choose one and on October 1st you'll draw, writer or whatever you desire to describe this place. Let your imagination run wild, then you will see how off you are!!! Too fun right?

6. Yes I added an extra... so sue me. I just wanted to tell you we are approaching October. The best month of the year (and it's not because of my birthday... my b-day is in March) It's the month I was engaged and married, it's my husbands birthday and it's Halloween! We also attend the Texas Ren Fest which never disappoints! What's not to love!

So what are your truths?!

Truth Thursday's - Book Love

BiG NeWs!! Blogger and author Amy Holder is giving away a signed ARC copy of her upcoming novel The Lipstick Laws and three lucky winners will be receiving $30 Amazon giftcards! So be sure to jump over there when you're done reading my ridiculously awesome truth thursday :)

I love Truth Thursdays!!! Today is extra special, it's just my views on books I've read, I've heard of, and more!

1. Zombies scare me. Just the thought of something that has no problem having someone say “FLESH-EATING ZOMBIES” isn’t right. I mean, why not try and be a vegan Zombie? Maybe I’d consider changing my opinion of you?

2. Does anyone else find it wrong that people are falling in love with animals these days? I mean come on… Jacob is part werewolf, isn’t that enough to make you run away? Teen Wolf anyone? Yeah I’m not down with that… I’d rather go with the sparkly vampire (sorry Candyland) as wrong as I think sparkles on vampires are, loving a wet dog just doesn’t work for me.

3. Why does everyone give Voldemort such a bad wrap? I mean is he really that bad of a guy? Harry spends all his time rubbing the fact that he has friends in Voldemorts face; I’d be pissed off to and wants to ring his little neck. Besides sometimes Harry whines a little too much, and I’ve never been a fan of whiners.

4. If I were to be a princess I would like to be Anne Hathaway’s version. Anyone who can get away with saying “Shut up” and have a cat named Fat Louie while still maintaining royal status is A-Okay in my book. Seriously she gets to wear jewels, kick ass dresses, AND slide down an air mattress on royal stairs, what could be better than that?

5. I’ve been thinking about Fairytale land and who I’d rather be. This one was tough, Sleeping Beauty is just a princess who is asleep waiting to die, Snow White has to take care of some very opinionated and bossy little dwarfs, Belle is forced to be with a Beast that has serious anger management issues, Jasmine wants to take a life of riches to marrying a dirty “street rat” (their words not mine) and Ariel doesn’t understand how cool being a mermaid is. Are these women really that dense? They really make us look bad. However if I had to choose I suppose Ariel would win, and that is only if (ONLY IF) I get to remain a mermaid and the Prince turns into a sexy Merman… don’t believe it can happen? Read Forgive My Fins.

So what are your truths? Care to work off mine, opinions are welcome :)

Truth Thursday's - Toilet Edition

Yay it's back!!! I missed it a lot last week but that's okay it was well worth the cause!!! This week I wanted to bring up toilet ettiquette, there are several things that bother me about restrooms and here are five that I've come up with!!!

1. Talking while in a stall is not only disruptive to your bodily functions but inappropriate and rude.

2. Talking while on a cell phone in a stall is even worse.

3. Leaving the toilet unflushed makes you seem like an animal (yup, a pig).

4. Leaving toilet paper hanging all the way to the floor isn't only disgusting it's wasteful and unsanitary.

5. Don't use the excuse that you don't liked the way the soap smelled, please wash your hands, it only takes seconds.

So I would say there truths, not only mind but I'm sure quite a few others. My mom also wanted to add one as well, we find that if there are several stalls that are open in a bathroom please refrain from using the one directly next to another person, they already feel uncomfortable enough in an open space and you don't need to be rude and join right next to them.

I'd love to hear if you have any of your own!!! Bring it! You know you want to jump in...

Truth Thursday!

Lets get to the point... THE TRUTH

1. I'd like to walk on clouds. Yes I know it's insane considering the fluffy white clouds are really fluffy once you reach them, but I picture they'd be like jumping on a trampoline, except this trampoline would take you all the way to New York, Hawaii, Paris... all the places I'd love to visit with no air fare... you tell me what you'd rather do?!

2. Certain people annoy me... a lot.

3. I would love a day away from myself. Do you ever have one of those moments? Where your mind won't stop bothering you but you can't get out of it? Last Friday I took a Sanity day to get away from myself. I went to the bookstore, ate pizza and watched movies, trying to pretend I was someone else. Weird I know.

4. Thinking about what's for dinner stresses me out.

5. There are trees outside my apartment that lead to an abandoned building. We would be trespassing if we go past a certain mark, and though we've done it before with friends I'm still fascinated by this building and late at night makes it even more inticing. What's stupid is that I'm afraid of the dark but I'm most intrigued around the one o'clock hour. Pitch black...silence...abandoned building, no wonder I have nightmares.

Any fun truths on your end? I had quite a few more in mind but I'll refrain til next round, after all I don't want to bore you!

PS thanks to the help of Kimberly Franklin I now have tabs at the top of my blog that leads you to my current WiP, About Me, Contacting Me and more!!! So feel free to look around and see what you think!

Sharon Shinn is having a giveaway on a copy of Ally Condie's Matched in lieu of her 100+ followers! Since it's not out until 11/30 she'll be pre-ordering it so that it's shipped to you in December! Isn't that awesome?!

Sarah B. Larson is having a giveaway that ends on Sunday for a new book by Stephanie Meyer on a story about Bree!! Be sure to check it out, she's a sweet blogger!

TRUTHS FOR THE WEEK!!!!!

1. I've decided to start something I'm calling Project Jen. A project that allows me to be a little be more - fly by the seat my pants - type of self. I am normally very structured and by the book but I want to live a little more, like the days when I was 19. Since moving to Houston I lost some of my awesomeness, and now I'm fighting to get some of it back!! You'll be hearing a lot more of this when I'm finished reading Eat Pray Love which is giving me inspiration to start this journey! Wish me luck!

2. I've always wanted to learn french. So I've decided I'm going to start. I've bought CD's about a year ago and I'm going to bring them out and start listening to them and studying, then I'm going to take a class and then join a meetup where people get together on Wednesday evenings and speak French so they don't lose their language! Great idea on paper right? Well part of Project Jen is to do something outside of the box... and this my friends is it!

3. So Harry Potter World will soon be opening up and as much as I'd like to go to the grand opening that just won't be happening. Fear not though, I'll be going next year and you bet your butt I'm going to have the time of my life! My new blog buddies Ramona and Melissa love Harry Potter as much as I do. In fact they are wonderful artists and writers who draw and write their own stories about getting to Hogwarts, along with other awesome things! You must check out these two sweet girls!

4. I'm exhausted this week, and the exhaustion is worse than most days because I told my husband the other day "Honey, I think our cats should be us for a day, I mean they live here rent free and lounge around, doesn't it only make sense that every once in awhile they take care of us?"... he agreed, because he's just as imaginative as I am, and because when a crazy person is that tired they shouldn't be messed with!

5. I'm looking forward to tomorrow nights author signing and hope to meet a couple of my blog buddies over there!!! Author Tera Lynn Childs will be talking about her latest book Forgive My Fins and my sister Kim and possibly Kristin Rae will be meeting us there! Pictures to come!

So what are your truths??? Feeling like you need a change in your life, are you going to do something like Project Jen? Want to learn a new language? Have a love of Harry Potter? Exhausted to the point of insanity? Books that you are dying to read? Share anything here!

Truth Thursdays!

Gosh Thursday already?? One of the best days of the week if you ask me, we are almost to Friday and the week is already half way over! Also it's my fabulous truth thursdays where I share a few things and hope that you'll share your truths as well!!!

Last week was all about food so this week I am going to try really hard to not make any of my truths food related, we all know how tough this can be!

Here we go!!!

1. My favorite month is October, it is the month of my husbands birthday, our engagement, our wedding anniversary, the Rennaissance Festival here in Houston, awesome Haunted Houses and Halloween. The hubs was married on Halloween so it is a big thing in our house!

2. I love baking (no food listed so I'm not cheating!!!) I have tons of recipe cards filled with my favorites and the hubs favorites from his mom.

3. I love to fly but always get motion sickness. It's ridiculous too, I'll be so excited then when on the plane I feel awful but the minute I walk off I feel 100% and ready to get back on the plane!

4. Pier 1 Imports is like heaven for me, though if you looked at my house you'd never guess, you would say Ikea is. That's what is most affordable but if I had my wish I would buy everything from Pier 1!!

5. I have different colored marbles/gems for every holiday, it is a center piece on my island. I have little bats and ghosts for Halloween, hearts for Valentines Day, leaves for fall, you name it I have it (thanks to Pier 1... they aren't as expensive as everything else!!)

So what are your truths?? Do you have a knack for interior design, love to bake, hate traffic? Share it all here! I love to know your thoughts for the day!

Extras: I will have a surprise interview, hopefully next week on my blog!!! So stay tuned! Also if you live in Houston or the surrounding area Kimberly Derting author of The Body Finder will be at the Barnes & Noble at the Woodlands this Friday at 7PM for more information check out the Supernatural Summer website!

Truth Thursdays!

One of my fun and meaningless posts for the week, where I share five truths about myself which happen to be very random. It's nearing the end of the week and nice to have a little fun to get through that last push!

1. I'M GOING TO SEE SEX AND THE CITY 2 TOMMORROW!!!!! Addicted? Yes!!! I am not happy they made a second one since the first one was a perfect end, but I also know I can't get enough and being addicted has caused me to want to see the second! I know Kimberly Franklin can relate! So a girlfriend and I are going to see it tomorrow night, since she loves it as much as I do!

2. Habitat for Humanity is so much fun! The hubs and I have gone with a group and painted the inside of a house for a day. I love what they do for the communities and you should really look into your local one and help out for a day! Every person who buys a house in the area you work in has to put their own time into the property which I think is great. No house is given away for free, there really are strict requirements and help that you must go through. It makes me fall in love with the program even more!

3. Strawberry banana daquiris from The Cheesecake Factory are delicious! Yes I do love a good drink at the end of the week and if you ever visit the cheesecake factory make sure to have one of those for me... you'll never be able to go there wihtout one after you have your first!

4. Pancakes and cinnamon rolls are all I need in life. I can alernate between the two of them. Leave me stranded on an island with only a few items... those two would be on the list!

5. I love sunflowers, they are beautiful and last week the hubs came home with some and my heart melted! Men can always pull through when the time is needed!

So there you have it... my truths for the week! Care to share yours?

truth thursdays!

Happy Thursday awesome blog buddies! Hope the week is flying by!! Today is another installment of Truth Thursdays, one of my favorite days of the week, I know some of you haven't seen this post since the A to Z Blogging Challenge was a rather long one! However this will be a weekly bit where I showcase my oddness and honesty! Enjoy!

(I wanted to give a shout out to my girl Amber Tidd Murphy, if you haven't visited her blog you must, she has the most awesome Thursday posts called TMI Thursday, she is much braver than I am with her truths, but they will make you laugh hysterically!)

1. Lately ice cream has been on the menu for dinner. With the hubs not being home in the evenings it's easy to forget about eating and just go with something easy!

2. I've never liked the name Jennifer, I wanted my mom and dad to name me Brooke Lindsay, I know realize how silly that would have been.

3. I don't drink coffee but I do drink wine!

4. I'm making a quilt for one of my sister's for her new baby girl. It will be my first,I am taking photos and putting them onto a blanket, like a memory blanket! (idea from Step Mom with Julia Roberts) We'll see how it goes!

5. I get scared very easily, if I'm working on one of my WIP's and it's about a killer I can't work on it when the sun starts to go down, otherwise I'll have nightmares!

--Thank you for all of those who commented on the interview with Talli Roland yesterday! It was a ton of fun and I look forward to showcasing another aspiring/published author! If you are interested please email me at jenniferdaiker@gmail.com! I'd love to showcase your work! Now here are the extra questions some fellow bloggers had for Talli, she was sweet enough to take the time to answer them!--

The Alliterative Allomorph asked - How many years of writing and querying, and how many more novels did you write until you found a publisher?

Talli answered: I only started writing seriously about three years ago, but I trained and worked as a journalist for awhile. In the past three years, I’ve written six novels and send out loads and loads of queries to both US and UK agents (I figured if the UK wasn’t interested, maybe the US would be – plus you can email US agents! UK agents usually ask for hard copies). The Hating Game is the latest novel I’ve written, and the one that will finally make it into print!

Laurel asked - How has the discipline of non-fiction writing helped Talli write fiction? I'd love to hear about "non-fic skills every fiction writer needs".

Talli answered: I really had to think about this one! My non-fiction writing demands that I keep it short, snappy and readable, while trying to get in quite a bit of detail. I do lots of research then condense it all down to three or four sentences. It’s definitely taught me not to overwrite on the fiction side, although I might not write enough sometimes. Also, writing to deadlines has taught me how to organize and set targets for both my fiction and non-fiction work.

How did Talli go about choosing her pen name? I bet it is a great story and I'm dying to hear it! :-)

Talli answered: Sadly there’s no great story! Roland is my mum’s maiden name and I wanted to have some emotional connection to my pen-name name, so I decided to go with that. Then my editor and I threw around a lot of first names to try to find the right one. We wanted something different so people would remember, and something that would work well within the chick lit genre. We were firing emails back and forth when she sent me one suggesting Talli. I loved it! And Talli Roland was born!

Creepy Query Girl asked - why do you think your first books didn't get picked up? When you go back and read them now, do you still think they have potential? And in that case, would you consider resubmitting them to publishers once your first fiction comes out??

Talli answered: I don’t think they got picked up because they sucked! My first novel I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t know anything about plot structure, characterization, the publishing industry… I just went for it and surprise, surprise, no-one wanted it! I got some fairly brutal rejections from UK agents – one simply returned my cover letter with a slash through it and a big ‘NO’ scrawled across it in red (I must see if I can find that letter! I’ll put a scan up if I can find it. I might have chucked it in a fit of anger!) I got better the more I wrote, but there was nothing really unique about my plots or characters. Agents told me my writing was ‘competent’ but my stories just didn’t stand out. I think I was too quick to latch onto ideas that I couldn’t make interesting enough. Choosing the right concept and knowing what you’re going to do with it to make your story stand out is really important in commercial fiction.

Will I go back to them? There’s one novel that won’t leave me alone, so yes, I might go back and have another crack at it.

notesfromnadir asks: What is your favorite brand of chocolate?

Talli answered: Great question! I love Lindt dark orange chocolate with almonds. My husband travels to Geneva quite a bit and he always picks up no fewer than five massive bars for me. I knew there was a reason I love him so!

BTW - T.J. I have not forgotten that you tagged me I just have yet to add it in! I don't want people to leave when they see how ridiculously long my posts have been lately! I hate to drive people away!!

CHECK OUT TOMORROW'S POST!! IT'S GOING TO BE THE EPICNESS OF AWESOMENESS!! An announcement for the upcoming battle of Dragons vs. ?!!!

One More thing and then I'll leave you, if you would like to be showcased on my blog (another sort of interview!) I would love to help you get the word out on your upcoming book! Just send me an email at jenniferdaiker(at)gmail(dot)com!!!

truth thursdays!

This is one of my favorite days! I love truth thursdays!

1. I wear socks to bed every evening only to find them underneath my pillow in the morning.

2. I talk before I fall asleep, completley random thoughts until poof I'm out like a light.

3. When I have migraines I like to sleep in the closet... the darkest place in the house

4. My husband and I have never spent more than $20 on a bed

5. I prefer crushed ice, my husband prefers cubed

6. I don't watch war movies, they aren't my cup of tea

What are your truths?!

truth thursdays!

Thanks to Lisa and Laura I've decided to steal their Tell the Truth Tuesday and post my own today! Why not Thursdays!!! So here goes nothing!!!

- Criminal Minds is one of my favorite shows, and I have quite the crush on Dr. Reed (I know Summer would agree!!)

- I consider my Bravo Shows my Trash TV. I can't get enough of all the junk on that channel, countless hours are wasted (when I should be writing) watching Millionaire Matchmaker, Tabatha's Salon Takeover, The Real Housewives (All of them), etc.

- When my husband and I are at dinner and the menu is oversized we always comment that Chef Ramsey would not be proud. We watch Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares religiously.

- I'm that person who orders a soda at a coffee shop. I'm not a fan of coffee but love the atmosphere, and my cinnamon roll!

- I dislike when others lick their fingers (I know everyone does it... except me... and now my husband)

- I'm addicted to blogger! 8 days away has killed me, I feel like I've missed so much!!! So if I haven't commented on your recent posts you are not forgotten! I'll eventually get around to you!

***Also for all of you who are interested in Prada & Prejudice I'm half way through the book - and it's fabulous!!! - so I will be blogging about it for sure!!! Stay tuned!

So what are your truths?
