Being Bold and Taking Chances

So today there will be no linkage for books to add to the TBR pile. I will just be sharing three of my first lines for novels I'm working on. This is where I decided to be bold (and possibly stupid) all while taking a chance.

I know a lot of you love the dark, paranormal, sci-fi, dystopian style novels (yes I realize those are all different), however today I'm sharing three of my OWN first sentences and I'll warn you... They aren't dark, paranormal, sci-fi dystopian style novels. They're chick lit. Which still can be fun... and since you heart me (don't lie, I know you do) you'll read them because you like to support me (shameless plug for when I'm published of course).

So let's not waste me selling myself away for the following three sentences.

Sentences

1. Why couldn't I just love Phillip?
2. Housewives must meet the following requirements: Cooking - Shit, first requirement and already I was in over my head.
3. Everyone thought I was a whore.

Titles

1. 30 Guys in 30 Days
2. The Beginner Housewife
3. Job Hop to Hunk Hop

So there you have it. A little piece of me. Feel free to share what you would read based on the first sentences or share a sentence of your own!

These all sound cool. #2 had me laughing right away. Chick lit is pretty fun. Thanks for sharing your first lines.

Love #2! Couldn't you see that on the back cover of your book as a tagline? It really gives a sense of the humorous tone and tells a lot about the character. :)

I LOVE chicklit and thinks it sucks it has such a bad rap. I'd buy all three of these in a heartbeat :-) ... out of all of them, I think I'd go for number 1 first! I sense conflict and a character who knows what she wants right off the bat!

Chicklit is as awesome as the rest, if not more :)
I love ALL three of your first sentences, but if I had to choose, I'd pick the third one first.

Happy writing!

You already know I love #1, but I'd say #2 is my next favorite (you mention "cooking," which equals "food," which gets my attention every time. The Beginner Housewife is a fun title!

Def love #2. First, because I want to know what the 'guidelines' are for; is it a help wanted ad? Some jerky guy on a dating site trolling for a suitable wifey? Second, I'm drawn in because...I would have the same reaction. I can't cook very well either. So I want to know if this character has other qualitites similar to mine.

#2 for sure! I can soooo relate. LOL :-)

All of these have hooked me! But my fave has to be #2--you have so much voice in that little opening! She sounds like a woman I will totally love to read about.

I LOVE chicklit!! IMO, there needs to be more of it.

I'm most intrigued by lines #1 and #3. Those pack a punch. BTW, love all three titles!

#2 made me stumble, but then again I am in over my head.

Do you consider those "working" titles or are you hoping they will be the final title when published?

And while I'm asking, do you think it's a good idea to use a working title or could it pigeon hole the writing (making it fit the title)

These are all fabulous first lines! I would read all of these stories (and not just because they were written by you). The second one in particular made me laugh and laugh.
