Blog Addict

Blog Addict? I know I am and I'm finding that with less time I'm looking for the perfect blogging style!!!

Several of you have been emailing me on what it takes to be a better blogger. How I've gained so many bloggers and how I always have something to talk about, so I've decided that a post is in order.

Tips for the making's of a better blogger:

Super long posts suck!

Keep it fun!

Stalk until you drop!

Commenting is a must!

Stay Organized!

Whining is for babies!

Just a quick elaboration on all of what I wrote. No one has time to read a super long post, especially those with a huge following! The shorter the posts the more time to read and actually comment. If you want comments YOU MUST comment, nothing is free! Make sure they are heartfelt, you want to show the blog author you actually read their stuff. Keep a good schedule, if you're sporadic with posting your bloggers will be sporadic in visiting. Keep your blog positive! If you whine to much no one will want to listen.

So there you have it! This is what it takes to be a better blogger! I hope I helped inspire your journey to continue to make the blogging world a happier place :)

Feel free to add extra thoughts!

Tomorrow is the blogfest!!!! Hooray! If you've yet to sign up you still can!! Just visit HERE! Next week is Featured Writer's Week and the following week will be the continuation of In Their Own Words!!!

Great tips Jen. I agree, it's a hard to find that perfect blogging style. But you are right...whining is for babies. :)

Looking forward to the blogfest. It's gonna be awesome!

Hey, Jen, missed ya, too! Getting back into the groove, lost a pound from not eating olives (but they were sooo good), and love your new look. Yep, it's you! Also loved your blogging tips. Next to a gal named Iva Massey in So. Calif., you have the most followers among the blogs I know. Gonna check out your blogfest!

But what if you're announcing an uber contest like me and can't make it short? Does that mean you won't read it :o( Looking forward to the Blogfest! I'm all prepared too! Whoo-hoo!

Are you a writer? Then you MUST enter this CONTEST!

Really cool blogging tips. I think I'm guilty of the super long posts. I'll have to work on that. But I completely agree on the commenting thing. I usually try to make an extra effort to check the blogs of people who post on mine.

great list and i LOVE your new blog look! Can't wait for your blogfest tomorrow- thanks for the reminder!

How funny! You've got a cute and sassy writers voice that's easy to love.

Okay, so how many posts can you read and comment on in an hour? How much time (approximately) do you spend reading posts each day or each week?

I'm finding it very time consuming, even though I enjoy taking a swing around the neighborhood. So I want to know what's reasonable and even more, what's effective!

Matthew MacNish said...

Well I follow all of those exactly, except for occasional long posts. Still your success (and the speed with which you built your following) is amazing and inspiring. I can't wait for Rose and I to help you with your query so that we can watch you begin submitting and then get to witness you having equal success with that!

Go Jen!

I love the six rules you came up with! They are all so true! If a post gets too long or someone is whinnying too much I will often not finish reading the post!

Jaydee Morgan said...

Great tips! I'm loving that new header of yours :)

Laura Pauling said...

and it's so true on all accounts - I skim over posts that have several long paragraphs (with not a lot of voice, just info). It's just too much!

Summer Ross said...

I'm so excited for your blogfest tomorrow. These tips are good ones, I specially like the no whining one.

I think I'm guilty of the long-post problem. :( I try to keep it short, I swear, but I can't even send an e-mail at work that's less than two paragraphs. I'll have to work on that.

Looking forward to tomorrow's blog fest!

Jen awesome tips and awesome post!

I adore reading your blog and your comments are always heartfelt.

I hope to become a better blogger and one day gain a larger following like you have done.

Much love

Quick ? about the blogfest--We leave the characters description as a comment on your blog or we post in on our blogs?

Summer Frey said...

Love the new header--very fun!!

The best thing to remember about blogging is you get what you give.

Beth - Both posts will be on your blog! Part One (Thursday) and Part Two (Friday)

I tried to email you and/or find your blog but for some reason none of my links are working! If you need anything shoot me an email!

All good tips! I'd also suggest:

Paragraph breaks are easier on the eyes. Just my 2 cents!

Can't wait for tomorrow's blogfest. I'll be in the mountains on a 2 day vacation w/ the family, but I don't plan on letting that stop me from hitting as many participating blogs tomorrow as possible ...

Christina Lee said...

Yep right on the money!

YAY for tomorrow!

Amy Saia said...

Jen, great tips and advice. You are always so positive and I'm amazed by how consistent you are. Very inspiring!

Great post Jen. I have had to cut way back on my reading and commenting of blogs. I realized it was cutting too deeply into my writing life.

The best whine is wine in a glass! LOL I'm so sporadic going from long to short blogs but I also said I write for myself so that's my justification. :)

I know I can always come here for a smile. I'm liking the 60/70ish style flowers in the background.

And lastly, last night I dreamed about your fairy or I assume it was your fairy because I haven't read anything about fairies in a year. I like her.

HEY! Where'd you get that SUPERcool header there? I love it!

OK, you are very right. I hope everyone internalizes your "short posts" message. I've been trying to be better about it myself...

And yes, I was blogging to MYSELF until I finally got out of the box and started visiting/commenting/finding other bloggers I connected with...

Now I have even LESS time in the day! LOL! :D good stuff, Jen~

great tips, I always enjoy reading your blog! : )

I think it also helps if you're full of awesome like Jen Daiker!!!

Jessica Ann Hill said...

These are great tips, Jen! I'd also add knowing your audience. I think it's important to keep your posts on target to the audience you're trying to attract. While I think the ocassional venture into something else is just fine, it's not something you should do too often or you might lose readers.

A great post! Thank you.

At last! The super fantastic secrets revealed! You're such an awesome blogger Jen :) I love the new look of your blog, I think it suits you so much!

I don’t mind the occasional long post, but if every post takes me 5 scolls to read I’ll start passing the blog up so I can visit more blogs.

comment. comment. comment.
does that count?
seriously, i agree most long posts totally suck, and no frowny faces!!!

First of all, LOVE your header! I hadn't replied to your email yet because I was still trying to remember how to do it. Since Crissy designed my blog I've suddenly become all blog-stupid about all this stuff. But yours. looks. fab!!

Great tips. Making my posts too long is one of the things i'm always worried about. I tend to ramble a lot. Kinda like what i'm doing now!

Unknown said...

Great blogs. I have actually been reading for a few weeks, but for whatever reason (probably a mild form of insanity) I haven't been able to post comments. I enjoy reading your stuff. So, thanks

Carolyn V. said...

Great tips Jen! I totally agree and need to work on some of those. I'm running out of cheese to go with my whine. hee hee. Thanks Jen! Can't wait for tomorrow! =)

Elizabeth Briggs said...

First of all, I love your new layout.
I def need to work on some of these...mainly scheduling. I am terrible about that and post whenever I have an idea or feel like it. I should get more organized.

Vicki Rocho said...

I agree...only it's really hard for me to keep things short. I THINK I am until I see it posted on the screen and I just shake my head.

Leigh Hutchens Burch said...

I agree that you have to give love to get love.

I know that as soon as I stopped making it through my google reader every day that my comments dropped off significantly.

I love that you comment on my blog on days when I don't comment on yours. It lets me know you still care, and makes me want to come back to YOUR blog more often to leave a comment.

It's the circle: the circle of blogging life. (Harharspice.)

p.s. I like the new layout!

Great tips, Jen. Love the new look. I do know my entry is going to be way longer than I want it to be. Bad blogger on my part. I'm ashamed. **head down** Forgive me.

Stalking? Hmm, may have to try that tip next. I think I may be doing all the rest. My posts are very short and positive and I post a reply each time someone comments. So, is it stalking if I came over here becuase of Rose Cooper? LOL.

excellent post, especially the part about keeping it short! so many times I've hopped on a blog, taken a look at the length of the post, and hopped right back off!

Some good tips:) I need to be a little more frequent with my own blog posts, it can be one of my New Year's resolutions, lol. Also, it looks like your tips are paying off for you big time, 56 comments, wow!

Fantastic tips. Just straight to the point without any unnecessary blabbing :) As for me, I have to admit, the most dificult part is not whining. I feel SO tempted to whine & cry in every single post, but I'm doing my best to overcome this temptation :)

Excellent tips, very succinctly put! Thanks, Jen!

Spot on advice!!! There are so many times I come across long posts and I just kinda skim. Sometimes my posts do get a bit winded, but I strive to keep them brief!
